Burns Night Celebrations

We celebrated Burns Night today! We learned about Robert Burns by watching this video and listening to some poems https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMxIBqpryG0.

We have listened to ‘The Gruffalo’ in Scots, printed some tartan patterns using cars and paint, drawn Robert Burns from observation, imagined haggis as an animal, made Loch Ness Monsters using playdough and loose parts, danced to Scottish music and played some Scottish playground games like Queenie! Finally we tasted some haggis, neeps and tatties while listening to Anthony recite Address to a Haggis (on this website –http://www.scotland.org/burns-haggis-address/).

We have also been practising our poem, ‘Jack and Jill’ and  ‘You Cannae Shove Yer Granny off a Bus’ for our assembly on Friday.

Primary 1A Update January 20th

Here are some of things we have been doing this week.

Jakub

“We have a box with pom poms so when we find the sound ‘ch’ we put in the pom pom.”

Lily

“We were writing some words outside using the chalk.”

Laura

“We were writing about our aliens.  Miss Stebbing was looking for us to write 3 things.”

Alessio

“We have a new adding machine with a plus sign.”

John

“We have a big rocket in the classroom and a little rocket.”

Jeremy

“We did fire pit rules and we were playing games in the MUGA.  My favourite game was duck, duck, goose.”

Katie

“We were learning about writing ‘ch’.”

Danyal

“We have an alien in our space station!”

This week all the superheroes have gems in the jars.  But the learning power we used the most was Dr Determination because we found things tricky but we didn’t give up.

P4B and Mrs Russell 20th January

This week Primary Four went to Church at St Peter’s to celebrate Mass with Father Simon.  Thank you to the parent helpers’ who came with us.

We have also enjoyed keeping active to ‘Go Noodle’ in our classroom and in gym lessons we have been working collaboratively in groups to perform  movements and positions for gymnastics.  Take a look at some of our photographs below.

P4B and Mrs Russell 13th January 2017

The boys and girls of P4B have been very busy since returning to School after the Christmas holidays.  We would like to wish all our family and friends a very happy, healthy and peaceful new year.

In our outdoor learning this week we were put in to three different groups.

Group 1 listened to the story of ‘Stick Man’ and they had the opportunity to create their own stick man using natural materials found in the woodlands.

Group 2 worked collaboratively to make a spider web and then each member of the team had to pass through it safely.

Group 3 had to work in pairs and develop their talking and listening skills.  One person had to guide the other person who was blindfolded through the forest using clear instructions.  They then changed positions.

Father Simon cam to visit us this week and he spoke to us about preparing for Confirmation and spoke to us about the different colours in the Liturgical Calendar.

In writing this week we worked collaboratively in groups.  Our title was ‘Winter Memories in a box’.  We had to use our senses and think about what things we would capture about winter and save in a box.  We came up with lots of good ideas and then we used these ideas to create our own writing.

P1A Update 13th January 2017

This week we have learned a new sound it is ‘sh’.  We have been practising writing the sound and words with the sound.

Our space station is now open.  We had to paint the rocket and put the buttons on the control panel.  Ogilvie Bear now has his space suit and he has been helping in the space station.

On Thursday we went out in the snow for outdoor learning and we were writing our names in the snow.  We made some music with the sticks on the MUGA, it was great fun.  We made lots of footprints round the playground.  We even saw some cat footprints and we followed them to the edge of the fence.  It was good to catch the snowflakes on our tongues. We were also trying to make a snowman.

Our book of the week was Aliens Love Underpants.  Remember to ask us what happened in the story and see if we can remember any of the rhyming words.  There are lots of pants at the end of the book. We drew our own aliens and next week we are going to do some writing about them and make our own class book.  It is going to be called ‘Primary 1A Love Aliens’.

We have been learning about money in maths and trying hard to learn about the coins.

We have been putting glass beads in different jars to show what learning super power we have used most this week.  Dr Determination’s jar had the most beads it shows we have not been giving up even when things were a bit hard.  We need to try and use Team Player and Captain Curious as they had no beads at all.

P1A Weekly Update 6th January 2017

Happy New Year from P1A!  This week we started to think about our new topic which is ‘Space’.  We made a list of all the things we want to learn about.  We have been practising the sounds we know and writing our common words.  We made gift tags and drew pictures of gifts we would give to Jesus.  In writing we wrote a story about a snowman melting.  Kyle wrote ‘The snowman melted because he was drinking hot chocolate’.  Junaid wrote ‘The snowman melted because he was too close to the lava at the volcano’.  In maths we practised our finger patterns, we investigated making numbers with the numicon and we did some work in our number workbooks.  We are going to have a space station in our classroom.  We made a plan of what we would like in the space station.  We looked at photos of other space stations by searching on Google and using these ideas.  Ogilvie Bear is very excited about the space station and even has a space helmet on.  He needs to get a space suit because he can’t go to space in his uniform!

Today we were learning about missing numbers.  We played this game to help us.

We would like to try and play it at home.

Leave a message to let Miss Stebbing know how you got on.

P5 Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral

On Wednesday the 9th of November P5 pupils, who had made their First Communion last year, were invited to visit St. Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh for a tour.  They got to find out about the history of the Cathedral and have a good look around.  This was followed by a trip to The Gillis Centre for lunch and a chance to ask our Parish Priests about their calling.

Everyone had a great day.
