Primary 3 – 15/6/20 AM

Good morning everyone!

How are you all feeling today?  Check-in with your family and say how you are all feeling and why.

Here is the new home learning grid.  It is a bit different as it is the last 2 weeks of term 🙂  Home Learning Grid 6

Here is the attachment for the Bug Hotel (from the new grid):

Literacy – Writing

I hope you all had a good weekend even though the weather wasn’t great.  I went for a few long walks and made chocolate fairy cakes with my daughter. She loved them! What did you get up to?  Can you write your weekend news to tell me?  Remember your writing targets.

Punctuation  CL    .    !    ,

Openers     At the weekend…..     Yesterday…    On Saturday…..

Connectives (joining words)   and    but       so      because

Descriptive language     adjectives (describing words)

Maths – Position and Movement

This week we will be practising describing journeys using words:

forwards           backwards              left          right            turn       half turn                  quarter turn       clockwise          anti-clockwise

Have a look at this website to remind yourself:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbtp34j/articles/zrnjjhv

In your home or garden, work with someone you live with to practise describing and following directions.  Put a few obstacles on the floor or ground, and direct them from one end of the room to another. You could make something the ‘treasure’ and place it in different places to direct them to!

For example:

Forward 3 steps…turn left ( quarter turn anticlockwise)….forward 4 steps……turn right (quarter turn clockwise)…forward 5 steps…TREASURE!

If you would like some more practise with coordinates from last week, here are some games to try:

Natural object meditation

Hold the object – e.g. a shell, pebble or piece of fruit – in your cupped hands. Is it heavy or light, warm or cool? Is it smooth, bumpy or rough. What colours can you see? Gaze at the patterns, colours and textures in the object and appreciate its beauty.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Science

Hello Everyone we have a fresh challenge for you this week. This week we are going to move away from the building challenges and do a bit of a brain teaser.
Did you know that your brain is split up into different areas. For example, the area of your brain that controls movement is different from the area that controls talking and listening. These different areas are linked but certain areas specialise in different activities.
Watch the video clip then draw the table.  The table is really important so make sure you copy it down accurately. Once you have done that, test yourself and see which activities you are good at some will be harder than others.
Once you have done that you need to put someone else to the test. It will be most fun if you have an adult to work with however anyone will do.

Food and Farming

I hope you enjoyed learning about food chains yesterday.  Today I would like you to chose a farm animal and create a food chain.  I have also set food chain activities in Education City for you to explore.

Good morning

Today we are going to explore superpowers and have some fun with the Incredibles!

Literacy

I hope you enjoyed yesterdays story, today we are going to complete activities based on the story Commotion in the Ocean.  Please listen to the story and then choose 3 activities to complete in your jotter.

Throughout the story, new sea creatures are introduced using short rhyming poems. Can you create your own poem for a sea creature of your choice?

There are many different types of sea creature in the story. Which of the sea creatures is your favourite, and why?

There are facts about each of the sea creatures hidden within the poems. Can you choose a sea creature from the story to research and make a fact file about it?

If you could have one of the sea creatures special features or skills for a day, what would you choose, and why? (for example would you have 8 arms or be able to swim underwater for a really long time?)

See if you can invent your own sea creature and then draw a picture of it. What features would it have? Would it have any special skills?

Primary 3 Activities 10.06.20

Good morning

I hope everyone is having a good week.  We are going to have some fun exercising with the Avengers!

Literacy

Today we are going to listen to the story Barry The Fish With Fingers and then I would like you to choose 3 activities from the list below and complete them in your jotter.

Barry the fish with fingers has many skills that he shares in the story. Can you make a list of all the amazing things he can do?

In the story, Barry saves Puffy from getting hurt. This made him the hero of the story. Can you write or record a news report detailing how Barry rescued Puff.

Barry and his friends decide to have a party to celebrate the fact that Puffy was safe. Can you write an invitation for Barry’s party that he can give to the other sea creatures?

Can you write a guest list containing all of the sea creatures that Barry should invite to his party?

What food could Barry and his friends have at their party? Can you come up with some fish friendly recipes for Barry to make for his guests?

Primary 3 – 9/6/20 AM

Good morning everyone!

Maths – Position and Movement

This morning we are going to practise using grid references again to say where an object is.  (Here is the link from yesterday if you need a recap or missed it  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbtp34j/articles/z6hxrj6 )

Can you make your own grid and place items on it?  You could make it inside or outside.  You can place any items you have in your house.

Here is an example of one I made in my garden.  I put toys in mine!

Once you have made it, can you ask and answer questions about where items are located with someone in your house?

For example:

  1. What is the grid reference for the ball?
  2. What is found at D3?

You can also have a go at Pirate Map Coordinates:

Literacy – Punctuation

BBC Bitesize has great daily lessons if you are looking for something different.

Have a go at this lesson on using exclamation marks – watch the video first, then complete the quiz and additional activities:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmng9mn

Let me know how you get on!

Primary 3 – 8/6/20 PM

Good afternoon everyone,

This afternoon I have prepared an activity for our mini topic on Food and Farming.  You will be learning to watch and listen for information, as well as learning about the journey your food has been on.

Topic – Food and Farming

  1. Watch this video to see the farm to fork journey of carrots.

2. Copy and complete this diagram to show the carrot’s journey.  Sequence the sentences into the correct order and then draw a picture to go with each stage.  (All of the information can be found by watching the video.)

3. Find 3 extra facts from the video and write these down underneath your diagram.

Blue Peter Badge

From all the emails Mrs Docherty and I receive, I know lots of you are doing great things while you are at home.  From craft projects, to gardening, to random acts of kindness.

If you would like an extra challenge, why don’t you apply to earn a Blue Peter badge?!

Here is the link if you would like to explore further:

French

Last week I posted the Great French Language challenge from the British Council.  See if you can complete anything else from it this week!

Primary 3 – 8/6/20 AM

Good morning everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend and were able to see some family and friends again.  I saw my parents for the first time in 11 weeks and it was lovely to see them even though we had to keep 2 metres apart!

Literacy – Spelling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEbweE6KJ4E

This morning, have a go at spelling some tricky words using these 3 spelling jobs:

  1. Choose 10 words that you need to practise spelling from your tricky word wall or list.  Write them in your jotter and copy each word 3 times.
  2. Choose another spelling job and complete it in your jotter.  (Remember it could be bubble writing, rainbow writing, pyramid writing, draw and label for example.)
  3. Sentences – write each word in a sentence, remembering capital letters and full stops.

Finally, have a go at some of the spelling games on Espresso.  (These are free games so you shouldn’t need your log in details this time.)

Maths – Position and Movement

This morning, let’s practise using grid references to say where something is on a map.

  1. Have a look at this first and do the little quiz at the bottom of the webpage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbtp34j/articles/z6hxrj6

2.  Find the animals at each grid reference and write down the answers in your jotter:
