Good morning everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend despite the stormy weather 🙂

To wake you all up this morning, try dancing along with this Go Noodle video:

https://youtu.be/KhfkYzUwYFk

Literacy

In class we have learned about ‘magic e’ for spelling and reading.  (The e at the end makes the first vowel sound strong – we hear the letter name rather than the sound.)

Watch this video to remind yourself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3oA4wfUBak

  1. In your blue jotter I would like you to write down the 5 vowel sounds at the top. (a e i o u)
  2. Next write some 3 letter words that use each of the vowels as their middle sound.  For example:

hat

pet

sit

pot

tub

3. Can you add magic e to the words you have chosen?  Some will make real words, others silly words! Write down the ones that make real words.  For example:

hat ——>  hate

sit ——-> site

tub ——–> tube

Repeat this until you have made a few magic e words successfully.

4. Use your words to practise writing sentences, remembering full stops and capital letters.

(Some children may find step 3 challenging, so focus instead on steps 1, 2 and 4.)

Maths – 2D Shape

Revise the properties of the shapes below by playing the game here:

http://www.learnalberta.ca/content/me3us/flash/lessonLauncher.html?lesson=lessons/14/m3_14_00_x.swf

If you continue through the levels in the game you will also revise 3D shapes which will be our focus tomorrow.

If you have difficulty accessing the above game, try this instead:

Good afternoon!

Music

Our class topic this term was supposed to be Farming, so Mrs Keenan has planned some Music lessons linked to farming for you!

Click on the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXjt87urLOQ

How many animals are in the first song?

Try and song along with the song.

The second song is about things that can be done by animals, but only if you can tell a lie!

Join in with the third song Old MacDonald had a farm.

Maths/Art

Last week you did a 2D shape hunt.   Click into the presentation below.  What 2D shapes can you find in these paintings?  Look closely and list all the shapes you can see.

shape in art

This week I would like you to create a piece of art with 2D shapes so you can practise drawing the shapes. Be creative! You can create an abstract picture like the ones by Kandinsky, or you can make a picture of your choosing using 2D shapes.

Ask your parent/carer to send me a photo of your work as I would love to see them.

Have a creative afternoon!

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend 🙂

Here is a new Home Learning Grid from myself and Mrs Docherty.  You can work through the activities in your own time, over the next two weeks.

home learning grid 4

During your daily walk, see if you can complete this daily walking challenge:

Thanks to @nlleisure !

Literacy

This morning I would like you to practise sentence writing.  I would like you to practise spelling, punctuation and using descriptive language to describe the pictures below.

Everyone should remember capital letters at the start and full stops at the end!

For a challenge you could try using commas in a list (,), exclamation marks (!) and connectives (joining words).

The fluffy puppy was ready to play.

The puppy was fluffy, cute, playful and very loving.

The adorable puppy was tired out because she had been for a long walk.

Remember our email address is:

You can send us photos of your work or use it to ask any questions.

Good afternoon everyone 🙂

Music

Mrs Keenan would like you to try the rhythm challenge. You can sing, clap or pat along, or even play your maraca if you made one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIxq-1a_810

Mrs Keenan would also like you to try some body percussion for the Nutcracker March!

Art / Outdoors Activity

When on your daily walk with your family, take a bag and collect some sticks.  Once you are home, try creating a stick version of your family as something to remember this time by.  Use glue or sellotape to attach the sticks to a piece of paper.  You could then add in some extra details.

Here is an example:

Remember to email any questions or photos of your work to:

Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday!

Try counting and dancing along to this to liven yourself up this morning:

Maths – 2D Shape

Remind yourself of the names of these 2D shapes (remember that 2D means flat). Can you identify their properties (how many sides, how many corners)? Go on a shape hunt around your house. How many shapes can you find?

Next, log on to Education City (your login details can be found inside the cover of your blue jotter).  Look for the P3 2D Shape activities that I’ve assigned to you and choose some to do.

Grammar – Adjectives (Describing Words)

Last week Mrs Docherty set you some work and videos to learn about adjectives.  Use what you learned and have a go at the Grammar Challenge on https://www.sumdog.com/user/sign_in

I look forward to seeing how you all get on!

Remember the class email address is:

Please let us know how you are getting on and if we can help with anything.

Primary 3 – 11/05/20 PM

Good afternoon everyone 🙂

Just a little reminder that the new Home Learning Grid was posted last Wednesday by Mrs Docherty.  You can choose what activities to do and when from the grid.  Here is the link to Oxford Owl eBooks which has a lot of choice of books to read, parents/carers can sign up for free:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page

Art / Technologies

On the Tate Paint website you can create your own masterpiece!  Can you create a colourful picture? Explore all the tools available to you. Perhaps it will inspire you to paint a picture using paper and paints if you have any at home?

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/games-quizzes/tate-paint

French

Watch this clip where you will learn more about life in France.  Can you help Barnaby Bear identify what the different shops sell? You will have to be quick!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z2p76sg

In your blue jotter, write down the French shops listed below and draw a picture to show what each shop sells.

  • Salon de The
  • Boucherie
  • Boulangerie
  • Poisson
  • La Poste
  • Pharmacie

Au revoir!

Madame Harding 🙂

Language Learning at Home

Language learning is an important part of the curriculum and helps pupils develop skills in many areas.

SCILT (Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching) has compiled a list of resources to support parents at home with language learning.  Have a look here if you would like any resources:

https://scilt.org.uk/Parents/Homelearning/tabid/8402/Default.aspx?fbclid=IwAR2PxX-vkR9P_x_F9TNwMcKyXOtd2aLfyr1Vaus6aw3z0TPWXbs5D2kvDj8

French is the main additional language for pupils in P1-7 at Polkemmet.  Spanish is taught to pupils in P5-7.

Primary 3 – 11/05/20 AM

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and managed to enjoy the lovely weather.

This weekend I discovered a new route to take on my daily walk. It had a river with stepping stones to get across and there was a huge field for Cora (the dog) to play with her ball! On Saturday is was glorious sunshine so I didn’t mind when Cora jumped out of the river and soaked me from head to toe with the water! On Sunday we walked much faster because it was really cold. We had hot chocolate when we got home to warm up.

What did you do this weekend? This morning you can write your weekend news in your blue jotter and draw a picture to go with it. Can you spot the connectives in my news? (Remember they join two sentences together.) Try to use some connectives in your sentences today. Here are some examples of connectives to use:

and
but
because
so

To help you remember your other writing targets, here is a checklist for super sentences:

Maths – Money

For Maths this morning, we will continue with Money from last week. I would like you to set up a little shop in your house and pretend to be the shopkeeper. It could be a toy shop, a food shop, a book shop – whatever you have in your house! You could make up price labels or a price list for all the items. Practise paying for things and giving change. What coins would you need? Could you pay for it in a different way? I would love to see photos of your shops 🙂

Here is the link to the game from last week if you would like to play again:

Remember we have our new P3 mailbox so parents/carers can email us directly at   wlpolkemmet-ps-primary3@westlothian.org.uk
