Bonjour! Hola!
Does your child enjoy learning languages? See the attached image for information on how to access after school sessions in French and Spanish!
Good afternoon everyone!
I hope you enjoyed the activities this morning and are ready for some more 🙂
First stop – Literacy – Writing
Watch the Monsters Inc ride clip, it is a 360 degree experience so you can drag the screen to see all around you:
Take a double page in your jotter, and on the first page design your own monster. Think about what they look like and how they behave. Are they kind, scary, fluffy, angry? Can you think of any other ways to describe them?
On the second page create a story where your monster is the main character. What do they do? Do they have a problem? How do they solve it? Write your story in your jotter and draw a detailed picture to go with it. Remember to use punctuation!
Next stop – IDL – Weather
Disney World is in Orlando, Florida in America. Can you find it on a map?
Using the internet, find out what the weather is like in Orlando today. Is it sunny, cloudy or windy? What is the temperature? Write this down in your jotter.
Compare the weather in Orlando with Whitburn. What is the weather and temperature in Whitburn today? Is it hotter or colder? How many degrees hotter/colder is Orlando than Whitburn today?
Draw a picture of yourself in Orlando and another of yourself in Whitburn. What will you wear in each picture? Think carefully about how you dress for the weather!
Final stop – Art
Finally, if you would like to learn how to draw Minnie Mouse, then follow the directions on this video:
I hope you’ve had fun today. Check the blog tomorrow for more Disney activities from Mrs Docherty.
This is my last day online before the holidays…. Thank you so much to all the pupils and parents/carers for the comments and emails over the last few months. It has been so great seeing your fabulous work! You have worked so hard and we are very proud.
Have a lovely break over the holidays, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you in August.
Mrs Harding 🙂
Good morning everyone!
I hope you had a good rest last night and are ready for Day 2 of our trip to Disney World?! This morning we will be completing some more Disney-themed activities as it is the last week of term – and Mrs Harding’s last day on the blog – before the summer holidays.
First stop – Health and Wellbeing
Get moving with a Peter Pan workout:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU-t-YEeosU
Second stop – Maths, Position and Movement
Look at the map of Disney World below. Can you find your way through the map?
Describe the directions using the vocabulary we practised last week. (Forward …. steps, turn left / right, forward …. steps, quarter turn clockwise / anticlockwise etc)
2. Start at the log flume and go to the rollercoaster.
3. Start at the pond and go to the Frozen ride.
Challenge: Can you give detailed directions on how to get from each place to the next?
Third stop – Health and Wellbeing
Safety Rules
Look at this video of Disney World:
Can you think of any rules or things that you would need to do to keep safe at the park? Think about what you should do on rides, who you would speak to and any extra rules that you can think of.
Either in your jotter or on paper from your art pack, create a safety poster to display the rules you have thought about. Remember a poster should have a clear title, bold information using words and pictures.
Remember we have our email address if you have any questions or would like to send us photographs of your work:

Good afternoon!
I hope you all had a fun morning and are ready to continue our adventure 🙂
First stop – Literacy
This afternoon we are going on the Frozen ride! Watch the video and imagine we are there:
How many words can you think of that rhyme with ‘snow’? (Remember, rhyming words sound the same at the end.) Record yourself saying all the words you can think of.
For a challenge, can you write your rhyming words as a list in your jotter and then use them to create a silly story?
Next stop – Art
Watch this video and learn how to draw Mickey Mouse:
I hope you all had a fun afternoon. Join us tomorrow as we continue our adventure!
Mrs Harding
Good morning everyone!
As this is our last week in Primary 3 before the summer holidays, Mrs Docherty and I have planned a bit of a different week of activities. This week, we are all going on a trip to Disney World!!! We will be learning about Maths, Literacy, Health and IDL through Disney-themed activities 🙂 (You have Mrs Docherty to thank for the fun ideas!)
First stop – Health and Wellbeing
Get moving with a Moana-inspired workout adventure!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMTXq7v3G7U
Second stop – Literacy
Create a passport that you can use during your trip to Disney World! Remember to include a front cover, your name, a picture of yourself and lots of space for characters names. (Fold a piece of paper in half to make a mini booklet.)
Each time you see a character this week in a ride, video or song, write their name in your passport! How many characters will you meet by the end of the week?
Third stop – Maths and Numeracy
To go on each ride, you must be taller than the items listed. For each ride, first estimate if you think you are tall enough to ride. Then measure using the objects listed. Keep a note of your answers in your jotter.
Ride 1 —> 6 pieces of cutlery
Ride 2 —> 6 of your own shoes/socks
Ride 3 —> 3 books
Ride 4 —> 15 blades of grass
If you have a measuring tape at home you could measure how tall you are. Can you find 3 things that are taller and 3 things that are shorter than you? Measure the height of each object.
Have a break at lunch time as we will be continuing our adventure afterwards!

Good afternoon everyone 🙂
Music – from Mrs Keenan
Mrs Keenan has planned some Music activities to tie in with Health Week (/Fortnight!). She would like you to join in with the following videos.
2. Mindfulness for Children:
Topic – Food and Farming
Animals have different names for male (boys), female (girls) and their young (babies). Look at this powerpoint that has lots of examples :
Next, choose 3 animals to draw in your jotter. Write down the word for the male, female and young next to your drawing.
Can you make a quiz for someone in your house about the different names? Let me know how they get on!
Have a good afternoon,
Mrs Harding 🙂
Good morning everyone!
I hope everyone is doing well today. Remember to complete a daily diary entry to say how you are feeling and why (an activity from the latest Home Learning Grid, published 15/6/20).
Maths – Position and Movement
Last week we practised grid references and this week we have been practising describing position and movement. I have set you some work on https://www.educationcity.com/ to practise all our work on Position and Movement. Have a go at some of the games and the ‘think-it.’ (Your login details can be found at the front of your blue jotter.)
Literacy – Grammar
Today we will practise using conjunctions to join sentences.
To join two sentences, you replace the full stop with a conjunction to make one, long sentence. e.g.
Give me the bag. I will unpack it. —> Give me the bag and I will unpack it.
Use and or but to join these sentences.
Now write some of your own sentences with and or but as a conjunction (joining word)!
Remember we have our class email address if you would like to send us photographs of your work or you have any questions:

Mrs Harding 🙂
Good afternoon everyone,
Here are some tasks for you to try this afternoon.
Topic – Food and Farming
Listen to the radio broadcast, ‘Down on the Farm,’ and see if you can find the answers to the questions. Write the answers as sentences in your jotter, remembering capital letters and full stops.
Listen to the ‘Summer’ programme here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/down-on-the-farm-on-cbeebies-radio
Answer these questions:
Can you think of 3 more facts that you have learned from the programme? Write these in your jotter too and draw a picture to go with them.
French
Do you know the well-known story of the Tortoise and the Hare? If not, you can read it here: Tortoise and the Hare Story
Now, watch it in French and see if you can identify any vocabulary (words): https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z7tjmp3
Can you find things that are the same and things that are different between the two versions of the story? Discuss these with someone in your house or write them down in your jotter.
Have a lovely afternoon, remember to email us if you have any questions or to send us some pictures of your work:
wlpolkemmet-ps-primary3@westlothian.org.uk
Mrs Harding
Good morning everyone!
How are you all feeling today? Check-in with your family and say how you are all feeling and why.
Here is the new home learning grid. It is a bit different as it is the last 2 weeks of term 🙂 Home Learning Grid 6
Here is the attachment for the Bug Hotel (from the new grid):
Literacy – Writing
I hope you all had a good weekend even though the weather wasn’t great. I went for a few long walks and made chocolate fairy cakes with my daughter. She loved them! What did you get up to? Can you write your weekend news to tell me? Remember your writing targets.
Punctuation CL . ! ,
Openers At the weekend….. Yesterday… On Saturday…..
Connectives (joining words) and but so because
Descriptive language adjectives (describing words)
Maths – Position and Movement
This week we will be practising describing journeys using words:
forwards backwards left right turn half turn quarter turn clockwise anti-clockwise
Have a look at this website to remind yourself:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbtp34j/articles/zrnjjhv
In your home or garden, work with someone you live with to practise describing and following directions. Put a few obstacles on the floor or ground, and direct them from one end of the room to another. You could make something the ‘treasure’ and place it in different places to direct them to!
For example:
Forward 3 steps…turn left ( quarter turn anticlockwise)….forward 4 steps……turn right (quarter turn clockwise)…forward 5 steps…TREASURE!
If you would like some more practise with coordinates from last week, here are some games to try:
