Whitdale Primary is aiming for it’s Level 1 in Unicef’s ’Rights Respecting Schools’ campaign. We are learning all about the rights children have, as well as the responsibilities that go with them.

Each class have a copy of the UN’s Rights of the Child, which has 42 articles in total.

Primary 2F are learning all about :

Article 3

‘Adults should always do what’s best for you.’ 

We are going to be meeting different ‘People Who Help Us’ to help us understand Article 3. We will be discussing all the things our ‘special visitors’ do to help us and then we will be making posters to illustrate this. We will also be creating a big display at the main entrance.

Special Visitors

Mrs Brown – Deputy Head Teacher

Mrs Brown came to our class to visit us. She does lots of things in school to help us:

She organises World Book Day, talks to us at assemblies, helps us in the lunch hall, makes sure we are safe in school and in the playground, makes our homework packs, has meetings with our parents and sometimes teaches in class if teachers are sick. She also has to put bad people into detention, but she told us this makes her VERY sad.

  

 

Police Officers Colin, Kenny and Caroline

     

On Thursday September, we had a very special visit from the Police. Police Officer Colin Hannah came into our class and told us about all the things the Police do to help us and keep us safe. We were then very excited when he took us out into the playground where we met Officer Kenny and Caroline. They had brought a Police car and motorcycle with them. We were allowed to go on the motorcycle and explore the car and all its special features. We got to sound the siren, which was very loud and we got to watch people on the special T.V in the car.

We had a fabulous time and are very thankful to our wonderful Police Officers.

 

Dawn Arnott – Social worker

 

Dawn came to visit us today (Thursday 20th September). She is a social worker and she told our class all about the very important job she does. She told us that she helps mums and dads to look after their children if they are not managing to do it on their own. She can help them to buy and cook healthy meals. She even told us that she sometimes has to go to Asda late at night to buy clothes for children. She can help families get a nice, safe place to live. Sometimes Dawn helps children who don’t have a very good family life to find nice foster families. Dawn said that she loves her job and she loves helping children stay safe. We really enjoyed our visit from Dawn and learned lots about her job by asking her some very good questions.
