Cooking up a storm

We were cooking up a storm in the mud kitchen this afternoon…. lots of mud pies, cherry pies and a strawberry pie too. We might need to make up our own mud kitchen recipe book at this rate!

Mud kitchens provide great outdoor learning spaces for young children. Learners enjoy getting hands on playing with mud and water, whilst also developing important physical, social and emotional skills and it’s also lots of fun!

As you can see, it can get very messy so please can we remind you not to send your children into nursery with best clothes and also bring along a spare set of clothes each day just in case your child needs a change after some muddy play, especially with the changes in weather when we will continue to play outdoors in all kinds of weathers….so wellies are probably best!

Our Learning Story- Pirates

Using the link below you can have a look at our planning and learning for our current topic of Pirates which has been developed from the children’s interests within the nursery.

The learning story will continue to develop as the children’s interests develop so please continue to check the story for regular updates and feel free to comment or share any learning from home that may have links to our Pirate Play here at nursery. We would love to hear about it…

Ahoy Mateys!

There be lots of Pirate Adventures happening all over the Island of Bathgate West this week… we have been listening to lots of Pirate stories and singing our Pirate song all week. Look out for our Learning story link which will be sent out very soon to show you the story of our learning here at Bathgate West and how our play is developed throughout the children’s interests. Here are just a few clues as to what has been going on in the nursery this week…

A pirate ship was created outside using blocks…

Treasure was uncovered in the sand….

Maps helped us find Skeleton island….

And a few Pirates have been lurking around stealing treasure!

We are looking forward to extending our Pirate play next week after the September holiday, so we will see all you scallywags back on board our Pirate ship next Wednesday!

Ahoy Me Hearties…. have a great weekend 🙂

Welcome Back

A huge welcome (and welcome back) from all of the staff at Bathgate West Nursery. This week we have enjoyed seeing all of the children old and new and hearing all about their summer adventures. We are slowly getting back into the nursery routines and our returning children are helping our new friends to find their feet around the nursery and building their confidence. Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on settling in our new children and reminding all of the children how we can all stay happy and safe at nursery.

Please remember that we use our outdoor area every day and in all weathers so make sure your child is dressed for the appropriate weather that day .

We are also looking for any donations of tissue boxes so help keep our nursery as germ free as possible!

This Blog is regularly updated with lots of information, photographs and planning links to keep you informed about everything that is going on in nursery so please check it regularly and also download our lovely App so everything is easily accessed from your mobile device.

As always, thank you for your support.

Summer Fun Day

The sun may not have been shining but we certainly had a lot of fun at our Summer Fun Day yesterday where we had Silvano the Magician, a bouncy castle, lots of fun games and even a couple of surprise guests from Paw Patrol! The whole day took a huge amount of organisation and planning and we hope everyone had a wonderful time despite being stuck indoors due to the weather! Below are just a few photos from a very busy day.

We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for the support of all of our families over the last year, thank you for the lovely gifts, cards and good wishes and we wish you all a very happy and safe summer. For those moving on to new adventures we wish you lots of luck and hope you have happy memories of your time here at Bathgate West Nursery and those who are coming back in August, we are looking forward to seeing you back and hearing all about your summer adventures!

Sports Day

It was our Bathgate West Sports Day this week and all of the children took part with enthusiasm and energy. We had 3 very competitive races including the sprint, the egg and spoon race and the bean bag race. To finish up the siblings and parents races were cheered on by all. It was a great day and a big thank you to all who came out to support, cheer on and encourage the children. We hope they wear their medals with pride. Here are just a few pictures from Monday.

Snack by the campfire

Following on from one of the children’s requests to have snack by the camp fire, we have been working hard to make this happen.

Today the afternoon children all had the opportunity to cook their own snack on the campfire and we shared out snack sitting around the fire together.

The children followed all safety rules and carefully toasted their hot dog sausages over the fire before sitting back and enjoying their hotdogs together around the fire.

“My sausage is all hot!”

“The fire is cooking it!”

“This is the best snack ever!”

“Can we cook marshmallows too?”
