The boys and girls have been creative in the Rainbow Room this week with some bubble painting…very messy but lots of fun. The building bricks have been enjoyed a lot this week, with lots of interesting structures being built, along with some super team work to create their masterpieces. Take a look at jut a few of the activities that have been keeping us all busy and here are a few comments from the children about what they have enjoyed most at nursery this week…

Burns Supper

On Monday the children celebrated Rabbie Burns by taking part in our own Burns Supper.

With Haggis, Neeps and Tatties on the menu, shortbread, Scottish dancing and even a Piper to pipe in the Haggis… it was a very Scottish celebration indeed….

Winter, Scotland and Teeth!

Brrrrrr it may be cold outside but we are keeping warm inside here at Bathgate West with so much going on. Following on from our visit from the dental nurse we have set up our own dentist role play area, so there has been a lot of teeth checking and talking about ways to keep our teeth healthy.

The cold weather has been inspiring some beautiful art work in the Rainbow Room over the past few weeks so our displays are looking fabulous with all of the children’s work. We are also gearing up for our Burns Supper on Monday with our Scotland topic and the smell of shortbread baking in our oven has been floating through the air of the nursery! Take a look at some of the things we have been up to at nursery over the past week…..

Nursery Natter

We have been nattering away at nursery this week with our second Nursery Natter on Thursday. All children were given an opportunity to come together in small groups to have a chat and share their thoughts and opinions in response to two questions about their nursery (LIT 0-9a, HWB 0-10a).

The questions were:

What do you like to SEE at nursery?

What do you like to HEAR at nursery?

Below are a small sample of some of the children’s responses. All responses have been recorded and will be up on display in the nursery shortly. The staff at the nursery will also be having their own nursery natter using the same two questions very soon and we will also be inviting parents to share their views on the same two questions also.

What do you like to SEE at nursery?

“I like to see my friends.”

“People playing with the play dough.”

“I like to see Connor”

“Everyone playing games.”

“I like seeing people playing with toys.”

“The pictures on the walls.”

“I like to see Adventure Ted.”

What do you like to HEAR at nursery?

 “Singing!”                                  “Music”

“I like to hear people saying nice stuff.”

“Miss Wilkins reading that story.”

 “People talking.”

“The teachers playing with the boys and girls”

“The laughing!”

Ziggy’s shiny teeth

We have had two special visitors at nursery today…Mari and Ziggy from Child Smile came along to tell us how we can look after our teeth and keep them healthy. We now all know how to brush our teeth and why we need to brush our teeth (HWB 0-33a) and we will begin tooth brushing at group time from next week.

Adventure Ted is coming to Bathgate West

I would like to introduce Adventure Ted to you all.

We have 9 Adventure Ted’s in the nursery and they would like to come and spend the weekend with your child.  Starting soon every child will have the opportunity, during group time activities, to take Adventure Ted home with them, on a rota basis, on a Thursday and return them to the nursery on Monday.

During group time on Monday your child will share their adventure with the rest of their group. The aim of this activity is to promote listening and talking within the curricular area of Literacy and English and also to develop confidence and self-esteem as part of their Health and Wellbeing.

Adventure Ted loves all sorts of activities ranging from shopping at Tesco to going to watch their nursery friend at the swimming pool (Ted doesn’t like the water!) to playing games with the family, to visiting Granny for the afternoon to going to the zoo.

Whatever you do with your child over the weekend we would like Ted to be part of.

Inside each bag there is a prompt card telling you how to use Ted along with a postcard for your child to complete and return to nursery on Mondays.

Enjoy your adventures with Ted!
