Calling all Readers!

Tomorrow is World Book Day and the teachers have lots of fun activities planned for you to try, be sure to check on Seesaw and Teams for more details. I can’t wait to see everyone dedicating some time to reading for enjoyment and learning from real authors virtually too! It is sure to be a fun day although it is different to usual.

We would love to see you get involved in some competitions that are running this week and you could even win some books or vouchers! The teacher’s will explain these to you in more detail. But here is an outline of one you could try:

Bring your book to life

We want you to show us how you bring your favourite books to life. Are reading together with a potato or wooden spoon transformed into your favourite book character, or with your favourite book in a bottle or shoe box? Or, are you reading dressed up like someone from a book? Let your imagination run wild! We want you to show us how you bring your favourite books to life. Primary one learning!

We have had a great first week back in person in P1! It was so good to see all our friends and teachers again.

In Numeracy, We enjoyed making our own pizzas in our fractions lesson and picking our favourite toppings. We were identifying halves and quarters of an amount and sharing items equally. Miss Gorman’s class enjoyed creating paper plate cakes and practicing sharing.

In literacy, we enjoyed lots of activities using our new sounds ‘ee’, ‘oo’, ‘l’ and ‘r’. We identified these sounds in words, made our own words using the new sounds and enjoyed working with a partner to play the literacy games.

In Health and Wellbeing, we discussed the food groups and identified healthy and not so healthy foods. We worked in groups to create plates of the foods we should eat all the time, sometimes, and only a little of the time. This activity made us all very hungry!

Mrs Howley’s class enjoyed a ‘Senses Scavenger Hunt’. We discussed our five senses and used this to find things we could see, hear, touch, taste and smell in our playground and in the classroom.

We learned all about Fairtrade on Friday and how we can help the farmers get a fair price for their goods. We looked at the Fairtrade symbol and the foods that we might find in our supermarkets that support this. We made our own Fairtrade lunch boxes.

Hope you have a lovely weekend and can’t wait to see you all on Monday!

Merry Christmas from Primary one!

And just like that, it’s Christmas!!!

We cannot believe we have finished another term in P1, where did the time go?

We have had a fantastic week doing Christmas activities. In literacy, we wrote about our own imaginary snowmen that came to life. We used descriptive language to describe what we did together and how it made us feel. We also made Christmas cards, focusing on the words we use and the layout.

In numeracy, we continued our learning of shape. We discussed the differences between 2D and 3D shapes; we sorted shapes into different categories and made Christmas pictures using the 2D shapes we learned. We also enjoyed making 3D structures using the building blocks.

Our class elf delivered another letter from Santa this week and he even sent us a video message of him delivering special gifts to our classrooms! Hooray, we all made it on the nice list!

Mrs Howley and Miss Gorman are so proud of all our achievements this term and said we all deserve a well-earned break! We hope you all have a lovely festive holiday! They would also like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ for all the lovely Christmas cards and gifts.

There is no homework for over the holidays, however we have sent home a list of the sight words and sounds that we have learnt for you to practice over the holidays.

There is a little Christmas surprise uploaded to Seesaw for you to enjoy!

Merry Christmas from P1 xxx

P2 Snowflakes, Reindeer and Signing!

We’ve had a busy last week in P2!

We watched an excerpt of The Snawman, read by Matthew Fitt who translated the original Raymond Brigg’s story into Scots and then took part in a draw-a-long with author/illustrator Benji Davies. The illustration was taken from his book The Snowflake and was really quite challenging. However, the finished illustrations turned out beautifully! It’s well worth zooming in to see the detail.

We also made some fantastic Rudolph hats to watch our Christmas movie in.

And finally, P2 have been learning to sign We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Click on the link to watch us in action!

Wishing you all a merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2021!

P2 Update

Good afternoon all.

What a busy few days we have had! Yesterday we learned all about stamps and the children designed their own Christmas stamps (while listening to Christmas music). There were some fantastic designs. I hope you enjoyed seeing their ideas!

Today we were estimating and comparing weights…

And here are some photos from a couple of weeks ago of us using non-standard measures to see how tall we are and using metre sticks to find ‘things that are shorter/longer than a metre’.

Have a lovely weekend!

P1 learning

Another week has flew by in P1!

In literacy, we learned about the letters ‘z’ and ‘x’. We had great fun making Zigzag the zebra and x-ray pictures!

In numeracy, we were learning about 2D shapes. Mrs Howley’s class went on a shape hunt to identify shapes in our environment! We also practised writing numbers as words and used our phonics to help us identify each number word.

This week was our personal talks. All our friends really enjoyed listening to us talking about our favourite toys. We used big loud voices when we were talking so everyone could hear us and we listened really well when other people were speaking. Mrs Howley and Miss Gorman were very proud of us!

We were super excited to receive a Christmas goodie bag at the end of the week, we jingled our way out the door to go home!

Homework for this week is on Seesaw and please encourage the children to be using Sumdog.

Miss Gorman and Mrs Howley can’t believe it is the last week of term next week! We have lots of fun Christmas activities planned! Enjoy your weekend and see you on Monday.

Primary one fun in the snow!

Christmas has arrived in P1! We got a visit from a magical Elf who sent us a letter from Santa. He is going to be telling Santa all about our learning and watching to see if we are using our listening skills in class! We were so excited to get a chocolate advent calendar on Monday and start the countdown to Christmas!

In literacy, we learned about the letters ‘g’ and ‘v’. Check out our violent volcanos and glamorous glasses! We also wrote a letter to Santa telling him our name, age and what we would like for Christmas.

In numeracy, we were using hundreds, tens and units to make an amount, we also practised our number formation and identified the number before and after a given number.

Mrs Howley’s class created our own toy robots using the different materials we were learning about in science. Look at us making our amazing creations!

We finished our week having lots of fun and giggles playing in the snow!!! It was a bit chilly but we loved it!

You should have received a group call about when your child’s toy talk will be next week. Reminder to upload the picture to Seesaw or send it to the school office.

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday!
