Online Safety Resources

With all this fantastic use of online materials and resources, it’s important now more than ever that we discuss online safety with our children. Miss Farooq has been gathering some ideas of how we can do this and we will post up activities over the coming weeks for you to do with your children. I have attached an activity for P1-3 and P4-7 to get started.

STEM Vertical Group: Flying object challenge

Mrs Burns and I have been missing our time with our vertical group and have created a STEM challenge that you can take part in at home. If you are not part of our vertical group and fancy joining in, please just go ahead. The more the merrier!

Different Plane Designs

We´d love to hear how successful your invention is or even see a picture of it. Email us at: wlfallahill-ps@westlothian.org.uk

We´ll include the pictures on our STEM sway so you can all see each other’s inventions.

Good luck inventors!

Letter formation

Morning all.

I was asked about letter formation yesterday and I suggested using this handy picture to help remind children which way round ‘b’ and ‘d’ go. I thought it might be useful to share on here in case anyone else finds it helpful.

If your child is doing any writing activities and is forming their letters or numbers the wrong way round, don’t worry too much. Just give them a gentle reminder about the correct way.

Learning activities for P2 from Mrs Gorman

Hi all,

Mrs Gorman has sent a few activities for you to try for French, RME and science. I’ll attach them below for you to try.

Speech and Language Resources and Information

Please have a read at the information below and follow the link for parent support and further details. This website would be fantastic support for any parents of the children taking part in the language links programme in school. But also a great source of information for anyone looking to support their child’s literacy learning at home…

NEW FRE SLCN Parent Portal

The SLCN Parent Portal is now open and has received great feedback from schools and parents alike. It is being refreshed weekly with new content from our speech and language therapists. It is worth revisiting regularly for new updates and resources that you can use at home. A ‘What’s New?’section will be added to the homepage so that you can see at a glance what has been added. This week we have added as new:

  • Spring Trios games
  • The latest digital issue of the Link magazine.
  • An introductory blog article for parents called ‘what is speech and language?’
  • Further blogs and podcasts will be added.

You do not need to be subscribing to any packages to use these resources. This focus is on providing entertaining activities, support, advice and information for parents and this will continue after the Covid-19 crisis eases. The site can be found at  https://speechandlanguage.info/parents

Hi everyone, we hope you all had a lovely break over Easter and have been enjoying the lovely Spring weather. As part of your RME work we would love it if you could draw a picture including as many animals and Spring plants that you can think of. Remember to colour your picture carefully.

P.S. Remember to check out the P1 sway for more exciting learning activities 🙂
