Hi Primary 5

Writing

You have the choice of writing one of the following stories or Newspaper Reports. Remember to up-level your sentences. Your story should have a clear beginning, middle and end.
• I can write an imaginative story about when Santa got lost the day before Christmas.
• I can write a Newspaper Report about Santa’s sleigh getting stuck in the snow on Christmas Eve.
• I can write an imaginative story about a snow day adventure.
• I can write a Newspaper Report about all Santa’s Reindeer getting sick on Christmas Eve.

Spelling

Victorian Afternoon!

Primary 7 had great time looking at Victorian artefacts and playing with replica toys and games. Some people dressed up as Queen Victoria and others dressed up as poor Victorian children. Look at the pictures of all the fun…and learning!

What was your favourite station Primary 7?  Write a comment telling the rest of the school what you enjoyed most and why.

Sportshall Athletics Festival

Primary 7 and Primary 7/6 have enjoyed some athletics taster session with the Sports Leaders from Armadale Academy. During the past four weeks they have been learning running, jumping and throwing techniques in preparation for a cluster competition. Today they attended a Sportshall Athletics Festival and put their skills to good use. Their fantastic effort and behaviour earned them the first place prize. Well done everyone for winning gold, all your hard work paid off!  The certificate will be displayed in the school foyer and the prize of six relay batons can be enjoyed by the whole school.  Great job!

Wear Spots, Raise Lots!

P7 had a fantastic day on Thursday fundraising for ‘Children in Need’. Everyone made a huge effort to wear something spotty and some people had even designed and made their own T-shirts! All pupils enjoyed decorating Pudsey Bear biscuits and writing a comic strip about Pudsey’s Adventure. During their laptop time , they spent time browsing the BBC ‘Children in Need’ website and researched who the money raised helps. They also had fun playing interactive Pudsey games. During Golden Time, some children chose to listen to ‘Children in Need’ songs from previous years and learn the Pudsey dance. Best of all, the P7 children enjoyed helping to organise and run the day. Volunteers went to the Parent/Carer Session to sell quiz sheets for the TV and others helped to collect and count the money for the class challenge. They were delighted to announce that the winner of the class challenge was P7/6, 2nd place was P1 and 3rd place was P7.  Congratulations to Caitlin Skippins in P7 who won the box of Celebrations for guessing the number of sweets correctly – she was spot on with 92!  A massive well done to all classes, parents/ carers and friends of Eastertoun Primary and Nursery for their support and generosity.  The amazing whole school total was £1143.31! Hip Hip Horray!

P5 – Travelling Gallery Visit

P5 went to the library today and were lucky enough to visit the Art Bus which was parked outside too! We saw an exhibition called Waste Management that was all about recycled art. Some children sat on chairs made from wheelie bins and others admired a wooden sculpture carved from an old ornament. We hope to have as much success making eco-friendly crafts for our open afternoon.

P5 – Technology

P5 have been making 3D model toucans from junk. They have also been set the challenge of creating a different Rainforest animal at home from recycled products. We have had a sneak preview of Jay McPhee and Zoe’s crocodiles and we cannot wait to see all the finished results!

P5 – Gymnastics

P5 enjoyed taking part in the gymnastics taster session. They practised rolling, balancing and jumping and worked on creating more controlled finishes. Some children had so much fun that they are considering joining the gymnastics club at Armadale Academy.

P5 – Haikus

P5 have been learning how to write Haiku poems. We learned about syllables before writing our Haiku poems. Each Haiku was based on a rainforest plant or animal and we used our research notes to ensure the information was accurate. Our success criteria was to write a poem with 3 lines with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second and 5 syllables in the third. Watch this space for some excellent examples!

P5 – Learning in Science

P5 have been using the mnemonic MRS. GREN to remember the seven life processes. We have learned that something is only alive if it does ALL seven processes. The letters in her name stand for each of the life processes – movement, reproduction, sensitivity, growth, respiration, excretion and nutrition. We worked collaboratively to create posters explaining each of the life processes.

P5 – Personal Achievements

Rebecca Ross got a bronze cerftificate at Rookie Lifeguards. She attends lessons at Armadale swimming pool every Monday evening where she learns how to save people. Rebecca is now working towards achieving her silver award. Well done Rebecca!

Cameron Carse got a trophy for competing in a football tournament at Polbeth.  He plays for Armadale sharks and meets twice a week to practise in preparation for games on a Saturday.  He usually plays left wing.  Keep up the hard work, Cameron!
