It is a New Year

P4/3 came back last week in high spirits. It appears Santa was very good to them all. After wishing each other a Happy New Year they settled down to work really hard the rest of that week and this.

Their topic this term is THE ROMANS and they learned all about Romulus and Remus. They wrote the story of them in their writing jotters which was not easy because there are lots of versions of the story. Rory has excelled himself this week by working on problems all about money. The teacher thinks he will grow up to be an accountant. Poems to learn were given to the class in memory of Robert Burns. The children heard all about his early life and have completed a wee workbook on him. Next week they will add narratives to the workbook during handwriting lessons. The Pencils Maths Group learned all about Tens and Units and did very well for a first attempt. The teacher is dead chuffed with the P4 boys who have been learning to add and subtract Hundreds Tens and Units. They are on fire! The Rulers continue to learn their tables and everyone is trying to beat Ryan Mallin who is excellent at them! In Reading the whole class are learning to explain the resoning of punctuation in any piece of writing. The children completed their Babushka dolls and took them home. Parents seemed to like the dolls and Finlay’s wee sister thought it was a real one! Next week the children will make laurel wreaths in their Roman topic and research why they are doing so on the web during laptop time on Monday morning.

4/3 Maths

Finlay reports that his group has moved onto place value and hundreds, tens and units.
Charlotte reports that her group has moved onto learning their tables 2-5 and 10.
Chloe’s group is adding and subtracting within 20.
Rory reports that he is dividing.
Mrs. Dunsmore reports that everyone is doing well.

P4/3 Posters

Children worked together to determine the success criteria of a good poster. A good bold title; colourful pictures and a clear message. Groups are still working on their conservation of water posters. They are following their own advice.

P4/3 Learning for week ending 11/11/11

The pupils in class 4/3 stood silent for 2 minutes at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month in memory of all the brave soldiers who had fought for our rights in the two world wars and the wars since then. All the children agreed it was a sad moment but they also felt glad because those soldiers have protected our way of life.

P4/3 also had a rewarding visit to the local library where they exchanged their books and had more time on the computers.

P4/3 Numeracy and Maths

P4/3 were learning about the properties of 3 d shape and why it is important to know these. They also learned how to tile some flat shapes and keep a pattern going with colour. They also learned that a right angle has 90 degrees and they have been using their testers to find right angles in the shapes they made using pin boards.

P4/3 New Learning

P4/3 have been learning all about poppies. They wrote a class poem.

Remember Them
Remember the bright red poppies
Growing all around
Saying thank you to you soldiers
Who now lie in the ground.
You stopped men taking our freedom
And protected all our rights
So by saving our way of living
We won the battle and the fight.
So every time we wear the poppies
We will remember all you men
And say Thank you God and
Amen.

Well done P4/3 for collaborating to write this poem.

P4/3 pupils access Glow

All pupils in P4/3 now have their login details to access Glow. They have been working hard to remember these and learn the safe rules when on the internet. Well done P4/3. Have a great holiday and I’ll see you after to start sharing our learning with the rest of the school.
