Taking Action on Our Playground!

The Rights Respecting School Group have been working hard to take action on our playground.

On Friday some of the group laminated the posters that we made to stop people from allowing their dogs to foul in school grounds. It is an offence which could result in a fine from the council (Article 24 – we have the right to a clean and safe environment).

The other half of the group looked at the survey we carried out and decided on a charter to set rules for the playground so that everyone can enjoy their play time (Article 31 – we have the right to play).

Primary 5,6,7 Science Workshop

This afternoon we were lucky enough to be visited by Generation Science who are part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival. The children took part in an interactive workshop called Power from the People. They explored electricity; what it is and how it is produced. The class were taken on a journey as Electric Scientists to discover how they could produce electricity from the movements of their bodies.

The class were able to explore the principles of electricity through use of circuits, flowing electrons, magnets and capacitors.  As a final challenge the class  worked in small groups to build their own generator to produce electricity from their own movement.

Day 100 in Primary 2/3/4

Primary 2/3/4 celebrated the hundredth day of school last Tuesday afternoon by enjoying various activities in class.

We tried different exercises to see how many we could do in 100 seconds, we tried to organise 100 coins into patterns after sorting them into 2 groups of 50, as a class we came up with 100 words – 5 groups of 20, we drew 10 groups of 10 shapes to make up 100, we also wrote our names in colour on 100 squares to see what patterns came up.

100 Days of School

100Miss McDermott enjoyed spending the 100th day of school with P1/2 today.

We worked hard to complete 100 activities at PE including star jumps, press ups, touching our toes and even running 10 laps round the hall!

Last of all we drew some funny pictures of what we thought we would look like in 100 years time (but Miss McDermott forgot to photograph them – sorry!)
