P1/2 100 Days of School

To celebrate being in school for a total of 100 days this session, Primary 1/2 have been thinking about what they might look like when they are 100 years old. We made super collage faces and we wrote some very interesting pieces of work on what we might be, have and do when we are 100.

We also worked with a partner on some activities based on the number 100 – we tossed a coin 100 times and recorded how many heads and tails we got, we rolled a dice to record 100 tally marks and we highlighted the number of times we found the number 1oo.

P2/1 Book Corner

There has been excitement in Primary 2/1 this week as we have been setting up our brand new Circus themed reading area in anticipation of Scottish Book Week which begins on Monday 27th November. We are now looking forward to the arrival of our new books. We have been completing our Reading Passport as a class and have some interesting views on how many stars to award each book.

Welcome to Primary 1/2

The children in Primary 1/2 are off to a great start and are trying hard to be good listeners. The have been settling into new routines and enjoying getting to know their new classmates better. A big thank you to the Primary 2 children who have been super role models for our new Primary 1 children!

P1 Beecraigs Outing

At the end of May, Primary 1 enjoyed a fantastic outing to Beecraigs Country Park. The children met “Monica”, the highland cow and observed three little lambs whose mummy couldn’t look after them as she was ill. We took part in a nature scavenger hunt where we found all sorts of interesting creatures and plant life. We visited the wildlife garden where many colourful pants were attracting lots of bees and insects. We were lucky enough to enjoy some very warm weather which helped us to enjoy a picnic lunch outdoors.

Minibeasts

This term, Primary 1 are learning all  about minibeasts.

We introduced our new theme with the story of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, by Eric Carle which illustrates the life cycle of a butterfly and we have some live caterpillars in our classroom which we are looking forward to watching changing into butterflies.

Our role play area is a “Minibeast Investigation Lab”, where we are having fun using different pieces of equipment to investigate some pretend minibeasts up close.

We visited our outdoor garden area on a minibeast hunt equipped with bug finders, magnifying glasses and minibeast observation sheets so that we could record our findings. We were lucky enough to discover slugs, snails, beetles, woodlice and some tiny spiders.

We will continue with our outdoor learning experiences with a visit to Beecraigs Country Park on 31st May.

P1 and P2 Generation Science

Yesterday Primary 1 & 2 had a visit from the Generation Science Team who presented the topic, “Ready, Teddy, Go”, where the children found out all about forces from the bears, Isaac and Newton.

The children participated in activities where they demonstrated pushing and pulling, gravity, floating and sinking and friction. They were engaged in experiments where they were encouraged to predict the results just like real scientists!!
