Counting activity

Hello again,

Before lunch why don’t you try some counting from the Phase 1 Learning Wall in your School Closure Pack. You will find these activities in a poly pocket in the pack:

Count forwards within the
range 1-20 stopping and
starting at different numbers

Primary 1 – Day 1

Good morning boys and girls,

I hope you are safe and well and ready for a new day of learning.

In your School Closure Pack, you will find an A3 jotter with your Study Ladder log in details pasted on the inside cover.

Ask an adult to help you log in to your tablet or ipad and have a go at the Literacy activities. These are sounds you have already been taught in class, so just have a practise at some revision activities.

At 10.30, Mrs Bryce will post a link to Fischy Music on You Tube and I am sure you will find joining in lots of fun!

P1/2 Lighthouse Keeper Visit

As our current topic in Primary 1/2 is based on the story, “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch”, we were lucky enough to have a classroom visit from a real live lighthouse keeper .  Mr. Riding’s dad, Charlie, came in to talk to us yesterday about being one of the last lighthouse keepers in Scotland on the Bellrock Lighthouse off the coast of Arbroath. He told us about his life and work and we were fascinated by his tales of danger and life at sea. He brought a very precious light bulb with him form the actual lighthouse.

P1/2 Outdoor Classroom Day

We took advantage of Outdoor Classroom day to try out some of the activities suggested by the website. First, we collected leaves, twigs and flowers to make silly moustaches. Then we tried to talk for about 30 seconds without the moustache falling off. It was very tricky!!

We then worked in groups to create 2D shapes using rope while everyone in the group was blindfolded, except the group leader. The group leader was the only person allowed to give instructions to the other group members. We all did extremely well in giving and following instructions and this activity was lots of fun!!

French Assembly

On Friday 4th  May, Primary 1/2 presented our fabulous French Assembly to parents and carers. We were able to share what we have learned about France and the French language throughout this session through vocabulary and songs. Our assembly was followed by inviting parents and carers to join us in a delicious French breakfast including croissants, pan au chocolat, french bread and cheese and hot chocolate. Fantastique!!

Outdoor learning

Last week, Primary1/2 enjoyed a super outdoor session in our sensory garden with Granny Lichen Leaf. We looked at edible plants and flowers, paying attention to which ones are safe and we made our own magic potions. We also worked together to create a shelter for Little Granny Lichen Leaf, which we are sure she is delighted with.

Magic Wand Walk

The children in Primary 1/2 enjoyed a fantastic walk in our local woodland area today to collect sticks suitable for making magic wands. On our return to class, the children created their own magic wand using collage materials which they proudly showed off. They then used their magic wands to make a wish which they wrote about during this afternoon’s writing session. What a busy, fun day!!

World Book Day

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, Jill from Blackburn Library visited P1/2 and P2/3 for a story telling session where she read two lovely books, “The Huge Bag of Worries”, by Virginia Ironside and “The Rainbow Fish”, by Marcus Pfister. The children thoroughly enjoyed the stories and Jill commented on what  a great audience our children were. Thank you!
