P3/4W + P4N Christmas Fair / Sharing The Learning

Today P3/4W and P4N hosted a Christmas fair for their friends and family.  Over the last few weeks the children have been working for Buddy the Elf from the North Pole.  He has been sending the children letters and task cards with different challenges to complete.

The children all had to apply for a different job involved in the running of the business and were put into teams.  The created the name “Elves Forever” as their company name.  The children made a variety of crafts which they sold to their parents today at the fair.

The finance managers had to work out how much to sell each item for to ensure a profit was made.  The sales managers had to use their power of persuasion to encourage the customers to spend their money buying the crafts and playing the games the children had made.  The marketing directors made posters and invitations to advertise the fair and the managing directors made sure everyone in the team was getting along nicely and working hard.  The production managers had to make some extra things for the fair like reindeer dust and games.

Here are some comments from friends and family who attended our fair today:

“Smiles, team work and beautiful crafts for sale.”

“Lots of budding apprentices.  Great to see!”

“5* Excellent Christmas Fair organised by the children and their teachers.  Thank you for all your hard work.”

“I loved all the important jobs everyone had and the skills they developed in their roles.”

The pupils all feel really proud of their hard work and are now busy counting the money from today to work out how much profit they have made!  Thanks to everyone who came and supported the children’s learning!

P3/4W Dentist Visit

On Tuesday this week, Sally the dentist visited our class to teach us how to look after our teeth.

We learned about what happens if you do not brush your teeth.  They would get really yucky and sore and you would get cavities.

Sally told us if we eat too much sugar then we will get holes in our teeth.  She taught us about the different foods which are good and bad for our teeth.

1 can of cola has 10 teaspoons of sugar.  1 small blob of ketchup has 1 teaspoons of sugar in it.  1 small box of raisins has 7 and a half teaspoons of sugar.

It is important to brush our teeth two times a day for two minutes each time.

Thank you Sally for teaching us how to care for our teeth.

Reading Buddies

Primary 5 and 6 children are enjoying being reading buddies.  So far they have read 2 books to their Primary 2 buddies.  On Tuesday they read One Button Benny and today they read I am Bat.  Here are some things the Primary 5 and 6 children said about reading I am Bat to Primary 2’s-

-“I liked it that the Primary 2’s were interested and could choose their own fruit and animal as a follow up task.”   Anna

-“I liked how my reading buddies were so amused by my reading and they could tell me about what happened at the end.” Sophie H

-“I liked it how you could use expression and how the younger children laughed.”  David

-“The Primary 2’s said really positive things  about our reading, that was really good.”  Hannah

-“I liked how the P2’s actually really liked the book and that they were laughing and wanted to hear it again.” Kevin

P2J OUTDOOR LEARNING

We have been measuring trees and recording what we found using tallies.

We measured trees that were bigger and smaller than our hug!

We found that most of the trees in the school grounds are bigger than our hugs.

We worked well with our partners and had lots of fun.

P3/4W Chromebooks Learning

P3/4W have been using the new school Chromebooks to learn lots of new skills.

We can login to GLOW with  our username and password.  We play Nessy on the chromebooks to practice our spelling.  We play a game called ‘Hit the Button’ to help us learn times tables.  We downloaded an app called ‘Brain Pop’ to watch videos about our topic on electricity.  We can send an email to our friends on Glow, read the emails and then reply.

Today at assembly P4s will be sharing our learning with the rest of the school and telling them all  about how we are using the Chromebooks in our classroom.

Electrical Circuits in P3/4W

P3/4W have been making electrical circuits.   We had to complete different challenges and work together to try and make different circuits.   We can light a bulb, make a fan spin and make a buzzer sound.

We wrote explanation texts to explain to others how a circuit works.

We can draw electrical symbols and draw a diagram of a circuit.

We watched videos to learn about how to stay safe with electricity and then made our own posters to teach others.

We also read books about electricity and answered comprehension questions to help us understand more about how electricity works.
