Higher Human Biology

Aims
Learners will develop  an interest in and enthusiasm for human biology in a range of contexts. Learners acquire a deeper understanding of cellular processes, physiological mechanisms, communication between organisms, and the biology of populations as they apply to the human species. Learners also develop scientific inquiry and investigative skills, as well as scientific analytical thinking skills, including scientific evaluation, in a human biology context.

The Course is split into four units;

Physiology and Health.

Neurobiology and Communication.

Immunology and Public Health.

Human Cells.

Assessment
There is written assessment for each of these three units and learners are asked to write a report on an experiment that they carry out in class.

An extended assignment on a related area of Biology must be completed under exam conditions in class, then marked externally by the SQA.

The final grade for the course depends on both the final examination and the assignment grade combined.

Learners are Graded from A to D.

Progression
If learners achieve a C or higher at Higher then they can progress into Advanced Higher Biology.

This Course can also assist entry to employment, training, further and higher education.
