Advanced Higher Chemistry

Aims

The Advanced Higher Chemistry Course enables learners to develop  knowledge and understanding of the physical and natural environments beyond Higher level.

The Course builds on Higher Chemistry and continues to develop the underlying theories of chemistry, and the practical skills used in the chemistry laboratory.

The Course is split into three units;

Inorganic and Physical Chemistry.

Organic Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis.

Researching Chemistry.

Assessment
There is written assessment for each of these three units and learners are asked to write a report on an experiment that they carry out in class.

An extended, practical research project on a related area of Chemistry must be completed under exam conditions in class, then marked externally by the SQA.

The final grade for the course depends on both the final examination and the assignment grade combined.

Learners are Graded from A to D.

Progression

If learners achieve a C or higher at Advanced Higher Chemistry then they can progress into an HND /Degree in a Chemistry related course  or into a career in a Chemistry related discipline.
