Advanced Higher Biology

Aims

The Advanced Higher Biology course focuses on the areas of cells and proteins, organisms and evolution, and investigative biology. Learners develop a sound theoretical understanding and practical experience of experimental investigative work in biological science, and develop their ability to carry out complex practical scientific activities.

The Course is split into three units;

Cells and Proteins.

Organisms and Evolution.

Investigative Biology.

Assessment
There is written assessment for each of these three units and learners are asked to write a report on an experiment that they carry out in class.

An extended, practical research project on a related area of Biology must be completed under exam conditions in class, then marked externally by the SQA.

The final grade for the course depends on both the final examination and the assignment grade combined.

Learners are Graded from A to D.

Progression

If learners achieve a C or higher at Advanced Higher Biology then they can progress into an HND /Degree in a Biology related course  or into a career in a Biology related discipline.
