Aims
Learners in Balfron High School follow a course based on the experiences and outcomes laid out within the Curriculum for Excellence.
It is designed to build on the work in S1 Science and to provide a stimulating and challenging basis for further study.
In S2 learners first tackle the geological structure of the earth.This is followed by acids and alkalis and the periodic table.
S3 begins with a unit of work on Fuels and hydrocarbons.Then a study of the properties of atoms and a detailed look at bonding.
Assessment
Various methods of assessment are used including written tests, practical assessment and research tasks.
Pupils will be involved in peer and self assessment exercises.
Progression
All learners will move on to study Chemistry in more depth in S4 at National 4 or National 5 level.
