Aims
Learners in Balfron High School follow a course based on the experiences and outcomes laid out within the Curriculum for Excellence.
It is designed to build on the work in S1 Science and to provide a stimulating and challenging basis for further study.
In S2 learners first tackle the Need For Food topic which includes an introduction to digestion.
This is followed by an an introduction to Biotechnology. Including microrganisms and the applications in modern science..
S3 begins with a unit of work on Cell structure, enzymes, cell division and osmosis.
Finally a topic including a study of Reproduction.
Assessment
Various methods of assessment are used including written tests, practical assessment and research tasks.
Pupils will be involved in peer and self assessment exercises.
Progression
All learners can move on to study Biology in more depth in S4 at National 4 or National 5 level.
