About fifty S3s took part in the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award this year and for most if not all of us it was challenging but very enjoyable. We have all been dedicated in coming to the many lunchtime and evening meetings. For the award you need to take part in a service to the community and learn a new skill or improve a skill you already have. Also, you have to participate in a sport. You need to stick at these things by doing them for at least an hour a week, two for three months and one for six. But the highlight of the award for most people is the overnight expedition, camping for a night in the wild. To prepare for this you go to a training weekend, learning how to read a map, cook over a camping stove and many other things. Despite the blisters, the midges and the camp food, it was an enjoyable and definitely memorable weekend we wouldn’t want to have missed out on!
