YPI – Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

YPI:  Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

This is a initiative to encourage young people to find out about the concerns of social issues within their local community and the  charities in their local communities which  support people in need or help relieve the difficulties around a specific social issue.  The young people  research a charity and then prepare a presentation which is judged initially by their peers, with the winners from each class proceeding to a final , for this session (2016-17) on Friday 4th November.

There will be 8 presentations  and the judges will decide an overall winner.

The group with the winning presentation will receive  a grant for £3000 for their chosen charity provided by the Wood Foundation, a charitable trust that is sponsoring this educational and charitable initiative.

This session we have 7 charities coming to the school to talk about their work, these include:
Turning Point Scotland, Scottish Refugee Council, Startup Stirling, PLUS Stirling, CHAS- Robin house, Age Scotland and Stirling Women’s aid

The social issues of concern include:  Drug and alcohol misuse, supporting refugees, poverty relief, helping the disabled, care for the elderly, coping with domestic violence, end of life care

The current third year is taking part in this project for this session and the intention is for the current S2 students to take part in May/June 2017.
