The Eco Committee work with Mrs Moir and are committed to learning about and improving the environment. The Eco Committee cover nine topic areas to help our school achieve an overall approach to sustainable development and global citizenship. We choose a few at a time to improve upon and come up with an action plan. Our current priorities include:
- Develop our eco garden
- Plant a tree for every child in Westie in our school grounds
- Plant wild flower areas
- Create seating areas in the eco garden using recycled furniture- so far we have saved 123,000 plastic milk bottles going to landfill.
- Create our own orchard with native fruit trees
- Place hedgehog houses and bird houses throughout the grounds
- Develop our willow tunnel
Look out for our Eco Monitors checking waste, litter and energy around the school and surroundings!
