Absence Procedures

One of our key priorities is to ensure that inclusion and equality are at the heart of what we do. Absence from school, whatever the cause, disrupts learning, can have an adverse impact on participation, attainment, peer relationships, health and wellbeing and ultimately positive life outcomes for our children and young people.

The causes and resultant impact of poor attendance are complex and far reaching.  Poor attendance has been linked to lower levels of attainment, difficulties with peer relationships, emotional and behaviour needs and poorer post school outcomes including employment opportunities.

Attendance Procedures for Wester Overton Primary School and Nursery

If your child is unwell and is not attending school or nursery, please telephone the school office and leave a message on the absence line before 9.30am.

If we are unable to make contact with you we must follow South Lanarkshire Guidelines for absent children. These are detailed below:

Step 1 – office staff make call to parent. If we are unable to contact parent;

Step 2 – office staff make call to emergency contact person(s).  If unable to make contact;

Step 3 – written contact will be made via text or email, requesting that you contact the school. If unable to make contact;

Step 4– other agencies may be informed to ensure the wellbeing of the pupil.

We hope that by highlighting this procedure to you, we are able to work together to ensure the safety of all at Wester Overton Primary School.
