Good morning everyone. Hope you are all well. Welcome to your second week of online learning. Let’s start with some more positivity!
Reading: Please make sure you are reading as much as you can – personal reader or school book. Below are reading comprehension pages for each group.
Grammar: This task is for all groups to complete – Verbs – Punctuation 30.3.20
Spelling: Below is spelling words for each group. Please also continue to use the spelling grid to choose various tasks.
Red – (y) – gym, mystery, pyramid, cygnet, crystal, rhythm.
Blue – (wr) – write, wrist, wrong, wrinkle, wren, wreck, wrap, written.
Green – (ff) – off, cliff, cuff, stiff, different, offer, traffic.
Writing – Keep a diary of what you do this week. This could be a diary entry everyday, every few days or at the end of the week. Try to make it interesting by using VCOP. We have all been doing very well at using this in school! Here is a copy of the VCOP triangles to help you.
Below is a textbook page for each group along with a reminder of some other steps you can revise.
We had also began working on measuring so here is an example worksheet you can use to complete some measure activities. Don’t worry if you can’t print it, you can note your findings on paper or in your jotter. You could also come up with other objects to measure – Measure worksheet.
Remember these are suggestions and you do not have to complete everything. You can use some activities from last week or continue to come up with your own if you want.
Our Tuesday Challenge will be posted tomorrow if you would like to take part. A check-in will be posted on a Friday. Please keep in touch through this check-in if you can as I would love to hear from you. It definitely cheers me up during this tricky time! If you missed last weeks check-in you can always go back to comment. Remember you can also use this email address to send photos of what you have been up to:
gw18burnsidephotos@glow.sch.uk
When sending an email could you please put the ROOM NUMBER and CLASS TEACHER in the SUBJECT as this will be used by all staff. These will be shared onto the school twitter account. I can post some of these pictures onto the class blog however as it is public I am unable to post any with names or faces in them.
Have a great week! Miss you all very much!
Miss M 🙂
Hi everyone, I hope your first week of online learning went smoothly.
I hope to have a check-in with everyone to hear about what you have been doing this week. I have been trying some new cooking recipes which tasted very nice, if I do say so myself! I have also been taking part in the Joe Wicks PE lessons which have left my muscles quite sore. Lastly, I have been doing some mindfulness colouring and getting in my one walk a day for some fresh air!
Feel free to comment below to fill myself and your classmates in on what you have been up to. Remember this blog is public so you may not want to mention specific names. I would love to hear from you!
I miss you all very much!

Hi all! Hope everyone is well. I’m missing you all very much! Welcome to your first week of Online Learning. This is very different for all of us so it might take some time getting used to it! Here is a copy of a weekly timetable template you can use if you wish, you do not need to use this but feel free if it helps you have some routine to your day! – Room 8 Weekly Planner
Lets start with some positivity!
Each week I will post work for that week. The hope is you should complete some Literacy, Numeracy and other types of activities each day. However, don’t worry, just do what you can. Spend time doing fun family activities in your home or garden where possible. Make sure you help around the house – some chores, help with cooking. I’m sure this would be beneficial for adults!
Just a quick update of spelling words for this week! In the ‘Home Learning Pack’ you should have a received a copy of a spelling activities grid. Here is a copy: spelling grid. You can use this to choose some activities to complete with your spelling words. Words for this week are as follows:
Red: You have some common words to work on this week – write, answer, began, heat, page, walk, water, picture, once, until.
Blue: You also have some common words to work on this week – too, school, some, never, know, yellow, father, mother, each, year, away, always.
Green: You will be consolidating some sounds you have been learning the last few weeks – (e-e, ss, ll) well, will, fell, call, miss, messy, stress, pass, these, scene, theme, complete.
You can continue to work through the ‘Home Learning Packs’. Please try to complete the two reading comprehension activities in the pack. In addition, READ, READ, READ whenever you can! This can be your school reading book or a personal reader from home.
Here is a copy of the reading comprehensions that were in the ‘Home Learning Packs’ if you do not have them – spring comprehension 2 pollution comprehension 2
Please work through some of the Maths activities that you have in your ‘Home Learning Packs’. As well as this, here is some work for each group to complete this week.

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all well during this difficult time.
Children should have received a home learning pack which contains some work that they can make their way through while at home.
I will update the blog weekly with some more work for the children to complete. In addition, I will be checking the blog daily so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me via the blog.
Children will be given a mixture of work from all curricular areas to complete, some written and some active.
Keep yourself safe and well and I hope to see you all soon!
Miss M 😊
Clicking on the link labelled ‘Home Learning Activities’ above will allow you to open a word document with some activities that children can complete at home if self-isolating.
Hope this is helpful.
Thank you for your support.
Miss McAvoy 🙂
For a lesson that Room 8 will be doing on Tuesday they were asked to bring in recent photo of themselves along with a baby photo of themselves. They will be bringing these photos home on Tuesday also, they will not be staying in school.
If children could have these in on Tuesday that would be extremely helpful.
Thank you!
