Week 4 Gymnastics

We had a few changes to the equipment this week.  The wide box was a section higher, the narrow beam came after the wider benches and at the frame, the ropes were out.  When discussing the equipment set up, we spoke about changes of height, direction and width.

Here we are in action.

Gymnastics Mats

We spent the first two weeks in gymnastics on the mats developing our floor skills.  We worked on balances, jumps, skills that involved our core muscles, rolls, handstands and cartwheels.  When we have the equipment out, we will have more time on the mats to continue developing these skills.

PE

Racket Activities

We have spent the second half of the term doing racket activities.  We have used tennis, badminton and table tennis equipment to develop our individual hitting and basic sending and receiving with a partner.

Swimming

This term P3 have had their swimming block.  We focused on developing their ability in front and back crawl.  Everybody is showing great improvements in confidence and technique.  Well done.  A great block in the pool.

PE Reminder

– Hair tied back

-All jewellery removed

-Wear appropriate clothes – tee shirt, tracksuit bottoms/leggings, trainers.

Shapes and patterns

This term we have been learning about symmetry, shapes and patterns. We experimented with tiling different shapes and creating beautiful patterns.

Everyone was incredibly focused showing amazing meta skills in creativity, communication and adapting when faced with challenges and problems. Some even experimented further and extended their tiling patterns using symmetry!

Have a look at their amazing creations below.

Art Lesson

In Art P3 have been looking at Shetland artist Ruth Brownlee, finding out about her paintings and what inspires her.

We started by experimenting and exploring the paint, trying to find new ways of putting it onto the page.

After a week of exploring, we tried to create our own weather-inspired seascape.

The final results were great!

Large Ball skills

In PE we  started the year with large ball skills with the benchmark rhythm and timing.  Through activities and games we  worked on developing our basic skills of throwing, catching, bouncing, kicking and aiming.
