Primary 3 are having an excellent start to their year, we’ve begun a new writing program and are working very hard on including different openers into our writing.
We’re also learning about Shetland, where it is in the world and about what makes it so special.
We’ve had a wonderful visit from Lily’s dad Richard, who came in to tell us about Shetland and its wildlife and his job helping with wildlife filming.
In maths we are working hard on our number, numbers before and after, larger and smaller and numbers within 1000. We’re also learning about place value and how this can help us to add and subtract easily in 10’s, 100’s and beyond.
The class have also enjoyed Show and Tell, we’ve had a tornado in a bottle and a volcano! We really enjoyed these and loved seeing how the experiments worked.
I hope you are enjoying all the snow! If you are looking for something else to do, have a little look at this learning grid. There are some games and activities you may like to try if you have a chance.
Have a lovely time at home and I will hear how you’ve been doing when we’re back at school.

We enjoyed a visit form the Jarl squad on Friday, what a lot of time and effort has gone into their costumes. We all got to look at them in detail and to try on the helmets, shields and axes. Alina is in it this year and we were all so pleased to see her in the galley and with the squad.
We’ve been very busy with STEM this term and had a stem challenge with primary 4 to build the tallest tower. We’ve also learned about acids, bases, alkalis and inertia.
Our weather topic is going really well, we’ve learnt about sun safety, wind, extreme weather, the water cycle and about weather reporting. We’ve even had Bob (AKA the Gulberwick weatherman) in to talk about predicting the weather!
We also had a special visitor in our class on Children in Need day. He joined us for a little dance.
We have had a great start to P3, learning all the new routines and getting to know our new teacher.
Our topic this term has been Scalloway and we have all learned how to use google maps to find Shetland and Scalloway. We have also enjoyed trying to find our own homes too.
We really enjoyed our trip to the Scalloway Museum, thank you to all the parents that came along and helped.
We’ve written poems about shells, using our senses and learned some dialect words too.
We were really interested in making Butter after seeing the old butter churn in the museum, so we had a go at making our own. It was delicious!
This term we have also been using the computer bank. We have learnt to switch on and off the computers correctly, how to use a mouse and we have been having a go on Word. We’ve learnt how to change font, size, add colour and have made door signs for our rooms at home.
