Papa Stour

We picked a great day for our trip to Papa Stour (Big Island of the Priests). A couple of lucky kids got to operate the ramp on the ferry. A bit of a swell on the way out and then in by the Maiden Stack (unoccupied today) to the pier.  First stop was for a snack and to the reconstructed Viking stofa or house (beset by midges!) then on to the kirk. Next we walked up to the school (not been that many bairns there for some time I would imagine), where Hilde came and told us a bit more about the island, time for a play and another snack then a quick trespass on the runway!

After that came what everyone was desperate for – lunch! This was followed by a busy time on the beach and maybe another snack? We loaded up the car and marched back to the ferry. A calmer journey on the way back with … yes, another snack and a snooze for some!

Well done all and thanks to Lynda and Mrs Drakeford for all their help, also Anna and Ula for the transport.
