Beach collecting, zoo building and den making

A busy week. P1-3 were building Lego zoos for their animals and then wrote short stories about them.

We went to the beach on Monday afternoon and collecting various items: feathers, shells, seaweed and some plastic. We later made anti-pollution posters.

The sun came out on Friday and so did the den building equipment:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Feather science

This term we are looking at the seashore environment. This week we carried out an experiment with feathers (thanks to SOTEAG for the kit box). We examined a dry feather, then wet it to see how the water ran off. Next we dipped it in oil and noticed how the feather became sticky and heavy. What do you think this means for our sea birds if there is an oil spill? Then we washed the feather with soap and found we could remove the oil.
