Recently, Primary 1 explored how the cold temperatures had frozen puddles nearby the school. We took care to walk safely. We had fun seeing what happened when we skimmed stones across the tops of the puddles and threw stones on the ice to crack it.

Winterwonderland
P1A worked hard on their winter wonderland pictures. They chose whether they wanted to have mountains or hills in their pictures and they drew their skyline in pencil.
Then the coloured mixed block paint to get the colour of sky they liked, either dark or light blue.
Next they glued down pieces of brightly coloured tissue paper onto white card. They were careful to not let the pieces of tissue paper overlap.
When the paint and tissue paper was dry they cut out triangles from their brightly coloured cards to make jewel colour christmas trees. We think they look beautiful against the snowy background.
Christmas Bookbug
Chloe from the Shetland Library visited our class for a special Christmas Book Bug session. We enjoyed listening to a story called This Rock is Mine that reminded us the importance of sharing. We also enjoyed singing some Christmas songs.
Winter Adventure
Primary 1A were curious about the changes that take place in nature during winter. We explored the wildlife area to see what we could notice…
Snowy weather
Primary 1 have been very excited about the recent snowy weather. They’ve had fun making snow angels, snow potions and have worked together to make some wonderful snow creatures ☃️❄️
Children in Need
Primary 1 enjoyed taking part in the Children in Need fund raising activities in school that were organised by Primary 7.
They were also delighted to get a visit from Pudsey on Friday afternoon!
As a school, we raised £552.23, well done and thank you!

Maths Week Shapes Work
We have been using natural materials (sticks) to help us learn about maths.
We organised the sticks in our groups. We tried to sort them out from longest to shortest.
We used our sticks to make different shapes that we knew about. Here is a pentagon.
Making a triangle.
A triangle and a square.
More triangles and squares!
We had lots of fun using the sticks to learn about length and shape.
New phonics sounds
We love learning about new sounds in P1A. Here are some photos of us concentrating hard and having lots of fun learning our new sounds this week.
We love practising out letters with whiteboard pens.
It’s great fun writing in our sand trays. It feels good under our fingers!
We used all the sounds we know to make words using the letter pebbles.
