5B Environmental Raps

This term we have been learning about how music can be used to promote important messages. We listened to MC Grammar’s ‘Save The Planet’ rap and then we created posters to advertise his song.

We then worked in small groups to write our own raps about the environmental problems  our planet is currently facing.

Miss Stewart then recorded each rap for us to listen to.  Below are our lyrics and the audio files for each rap.

PE Term 4 Weeks 5-12

Weeks 5-8 Skipping

We started by developing our individual performance from a basic skip to trying  different actions with our feet like jumping jacks, ski’s, twists, etc.  We could also try moving the rope differently by doing cross overs and a double rope with one jump.  In our second week we introduced partner work, where we both still had our own ropes but tried to skip in time, and skipping on a bench.  We finished the block with group skipping using the longer ropes.

Week 9-12

This week sees the start of our last 4 week block of the term and the year, which is Rounders.  Here are the first two games we are doing.

– Circle and line – In 2 halves, 1 half stand in a circle and pass the ball around circle.  The other half stand in a corner and 1 at a time run around edge of gym.  See how many passes the circle team can make in the time it takes the other team to all have 1 shot each.

– Passing rounders – 2 teams, 1 fielding and the other batting.  The batters throw the ball out and run once round all the stumps.  The fielders score by throwing the ball as many times as they can before the batter gets home.  The team with the most throws wins.

STEM Week Term 4

Engineering

People came in for stem week and what we did for stem week was land yachts.  We had to make a land yacht out of Lego.

Technology

Learning about circuits

We made music with special paint, when touched our pictures it played music.

Science

We had to make water move from one cup to another. We put water in one cup left one empty and put kitchen roll in the water and folded it into the empty cup. The water climbed up the kitchen roll and dripped into the empty cup, we used food colouring to make it interesting. We put another cup of different colour water on the other side to see it change colour in the middle.

We left it overnight, when we came back in the morning it was blue green and red.

Then we tipped the water outside it was red and blue we had to use chalk to trace over the water.

Term 4 PE – Week 1-4

We began the term with a block of athletics. We took part in a variety of activities across three key areas: running, jumping and throwing. This gave us plenty of opportunities to learn, practise and develop our skills across the different events.

Planting Trees

The school planted trees on the field.

Shetland Amenity Trust came to help us plant the trees; we planted over 300 trees everywhere in the field.

First, we got shovels, then we got shown how to do it. Then we got told to go and try ourselves. We all went in groups of 1,2,3, and 4. We had to find a good spot and make a square in the ground and then flip it over. Next, we stomped it down and make a cross and open it up a bit. Finally, we popped the trees in and patted it down. It was quite hard to find soft ground for most of us but we got it.

It was really fun and exciting, the people that helped said we were a big help to them.

Everybody was a big help!

Stories of the Sea Term 3

We learned about Arthur Anderson. We drew him and wrote about him. We made models of sea animals. We learned about how fishing has changed from sixareens to modern boats.

We did a performance for our parents and carers, we sang the Unst boat song and     Ronas Voe. Then we invited our parents and carers to see our work. We painted herring and mackerel too. We made our door into the novel ‘A stranger came ashore’.

Songs of the Sea

In music this term P5 have been learning two different Shetland songs, both connected to the sea which ties in to their class project ‘Stories of the Sea’.

The first one is called Ronas Voe, written by the late Ronnie Cooper and the second is Shetland’s oldest surviving song, the Unst Boat Song which is sung in the ancient language of Norn.

Below are audio files of both songs which we hope to perform to an audience in Term 4.
