Cooking Club

Our whole class are part of the new Cooking Club in school this term.  Alison from the canteen has been helping us think about the food we can make in line with ‘Food for Life’ guidelines.  We wrote letters to the local community champion based in Tesco, asking for their support, as we have no budget to buy ingredients.  We haven’t heard back from them yet but are hopeful that they may be able to donate something in the future.  In the meantime, the children decided to make healthy pizzas to share with their family.  Alison said that we could use ingredients from the canteen so that our cooking activity could go ahead.  We’ve had a busy day, preparing the ingredients in the morning and putting the pizzas together and cooking them this afternoon.  Thank you Alison!  We’ve had fun!  We’ve used our creative, critical thinking and communication meta skills.

Coding with Micro:bits

We are learning to explore core programming language concepts.   We created our own sequence of code and downloaded that onto micro-bits and created flashing hearts.  We used our curiosity and critical thinking meta skills. This was a popular activity and all the children succeeded in creating a code sequence.  We shall be re-visiting micro-bits soon.

Trip to the Burn

As part of our Living Things topic work in Term 1, we planned a visit to a local burn to look for living creatures.  We enjoyed a ‘hock’ in  the burn today.  We found some creatures, including snails, caterpillars and tiny insects.  We found an eel on the banks of the burn, but couldn’t revive it, sadly.  We focused on our collaborating and curiosity meta skills.  We had fun!

Glasgow Science Fair Visit

We welcomed the Glasgow Science Fair with their ‘Castles Rock’ activities.  We learned about life in a castle and did some C.S.I. as part of our groupwork.  We investigated various things including the identification of male and female skeletons, what the individuals ate, which weapons were used, what was their diet, where did they come from in the U.K as well as using our numeracy skills to calculate the height of the male and female we were investigating.  We focused on our collaborating, curiosity and sense-making meta skills.  We had a lot of fun! Thank you to Aileen and David for coming along to visit our school!
