This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.
Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.

Week 1

Over the past three weeks, our PE lessons have focused on developing rugby-related skills through fun and active learning. The children have been working on changing direction, using space safely, and improving their spatial awareness through dodging and weaving activities. We’ve also introduced simple games that begin to explore attacking and defending, helping pupils understand strategy. Alongside rugby skills, we’ve used a variety of equipment to build coordination and boost confidence. The class continues to settle in well and it’s been fantastic to see their skills and enthusiasm grow each week!

Despite a very windy day we went to Sands of Sound beach. We went to explore and see what was on the beach and what things we could find to play with. The tide was quite far out which gave us plenty of space to try writing and drawing in both wet and dry sand. Making sand angels was also great fun.
Earlier in term one we went to the wildlife area and listen to the story of The Disgusting Sandwich by Gareth Edwards. We then looked around for all different types of leaves, foliage and other things which we could use to make our own disgusting sandwiches. It was great fun.
This year, all classes will be working on the same activity in PE, with each class developing skills at their own level. We started the year with a Football block, focusing on building confidence and ability in key skills.
In Primary 1/2, our focus was on developing the fundamental skills needed for football. This included running, stopping, starting, changing direction, using space safely, spatial awareness, listening, following instructions, responding to cues, and handling equipment with control. We also introduced dribbling and passing with the ball, alongside other activities using different equipment to build coordination and confidence.
We look forward to continuing developing our skills and understanding as we move into our next activity block.
Here we are using the hoops.

Here we are doing a follow the leader exercise.

Finally, a touch of football.

In Art P1/2b have been learning how art can show emotions, we looked at “The Scream” by Edvard Munch and used chalks to create our own emotional picture.
