Term 4 PE – Weeks 1-4
We began the term with a block of athletics. We took part in a variety of activities across three key areas: running, jumping and throwing. This gave us plenty of opportunities to learn, practise and improve the skills needed for our sports day events.

Planting in spring
We have been busy learning about what plants need to grow and have planted our own peas. We are hoping our carrot tops will sprout leaves and in turn give us some carrot seeds. We also helped the Amenity Trust to plant tree in the school field. It was great fun!
Earth Day Song With Percussion
The 22nd of April was Earth Day and we learned a song called ‘Give The Earth The Care It Needs’. We added four groups of percussion instruments to the song: boomwhackers, tambourines, triangles and claves.
Here is a clip of us playing our instruments.
PE Term 3 Badminton
We finished Term 3 with a block of badminton, focusing on developing agility, balance and hand-eye coordination.

Term 4 Overview
We are finishing the year off with three activities for four weeks each.
1 – Athletics with Determination and Resilience
2-Skipping with Stamina
3- Rounders with Cue Recognition.
The Gruffalo Song – World Book Day
In Music, as part of our World Book Day activities, we learned a song all about the Gruffalo, the lovable character created by Julia Donaldson. We learned the words and the melody first and then added some actions to help us.
Below are slides of each of the four verses and also a little video clip of the class performing.

Term 3 Update
This week we begin our third four‑week block of PE. So far this term, the class has enjoyed learning dance and handball, and we wanted to share what we’ve been working on.
Dance
In our dance block, pupils explored how to use movement to express ideas. We focused on:
- Using imagination and responding to different stimuli
- Travelling, stillness, shapes, jumps and gestures
- Changing rhythm, speed, level and direction
- Repeating patterns in movement
- Showing expression and confidence
The children had great fun experimenting with creative movement and performing short sequences.
Handball
During handball, we concentrated on building throwing and catching skills and taking part in small‑sided games. Pupils learned some of the key rules of the sport:
- Players have 3 seconds to pass or shoot
- Players may take 3 steps only while holding the ball
We also practised moving into space to make successful passes and talked about how handball is a fast‑paced, exciting team game.

Art Lesson
In art p1/2 have been looking at artwork created by the artist Jim Dine.
We were inspired by his paintings of Love Hearts, discussing his use of colour, shapes and texture. We tried to recreate a similar effect with paint when creating our own hearts.
Using hot colours for the heart and cold colours for the background we explored printing by painting on one half of the paper and folding it over to take a print. Once we finished them and they’d had a chance to dry we used chalk to create an outline and add highlights.
Well done, the final pictures are beautiful!
