Primary 1/2 have been very busy this term! Our topic this term has been ‘Our School’, where we have learned all about the various staff who help us throughout the day.
In Numeracy, Primary 1 have explored numbers to 10 using a range of practical methods. Our favourite part has been hearing the Number Zoo stories that match each number. In Primary 2, we have been expanding our number knowledge and developing confidence when reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100. On Thursday to link our numeracy and topic, we went on a scavenger hunt through the school to spot some numbers. We managed to find plenty, and were able to discuss why some things in the building might need to be numbered. Here is a picture of our number hunt!
For our practical maths, we have explored pattern. Both Primary 1 and 2 have continued and created various types of patterns and can recognise these in day-to-day school life. Below are some pictures of our pattern making.
In Literacy, Primary 1 have learned some new sounds! We have enjoyed listening to the stories and songs for each of the sounds. We have linked the songs below! Jolly Phonics Songs Group 1 – Learn Letter Sounds s, a, t, i, p, n for Kids in British English
Primary 2 have also been learning new sounds, and have been practicing using these in our writing. We also have been developing our sentence writing skills, making sure to include capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
Finally, we have made a list of some of our favourite parts of this term. These are as follows;
- making new friends
- playing and learning in the playroom
- learning new sounds and numbers
- singing ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ in Music with Ms Simpson
- making our ghost dogs with Miss Birnie in Art
- learning new games with Mrs Ritchie in P.E
