P7 Trip

Here are a few highlights from our P7 residential!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Shetland Christian Youth Camp for allowing us to use their excellent facilities.

Everyone had a fantastic time taking part in the activities and making memories with friends. Even the teachers got involved — and were delighted to win the game of hide-and-seek!

Shetland Public Protection Committee – AI session

Today we had a session run by the Shetland Public Protection Committee (SPCC) on AI. We discussed the pros and cons of AI and how it impacts our lives.

Reka and Sandra from SPPC halve passed on some information that could be beneficial to parents/carers when it comes to digital life and how to work with restrictions on the different devices. Please see the links below.

  1. Layer up for Online safety –  a step by step approach to introduce restrictions
  2. Talking to your child about staying safe online – is full of ideas on what to look out for and chat about with children and their online life.
  3. They also recommended ask the awkward resources as they have some brilliant conversation starters for older primary but also secondary children.

All these can be found on our website (www.safershetland.com) under child protection – for parents and carers along with many many other topics around keeping children safe.

Kind regards,

Mr Hayes

Hockey Tournament

Pupils from P6 and P7 had a great day out representing the school at the primary hockey festival in Brae. The pupils played some brilliant hockey and were a credit to the school. Thank you so much to Luca from Fair Isle for joining our team. We love working in partnership with Fair Isle and it is a gift to be able to have them as part of the Sandwick Community.

Vaping Workshop

This week, we had the opportunity to take part in a vaping workshop, which linked well with our previous topic on substance misuse from last term.

The P6/7 pupils learned about the dangers of vaping and its effects on the body. The visitors commented on the pupils’ excellent knowledge and noted how engaged they were throughout the session.

Climate Roadshow

Last week, our school had a visit from the Climate Roadshow. They talked to us about the importance of climate change and how we can help look after our planet.

We also got the chance to do an investigation, which was a fun way to learn more about how our actions can affect the environment.

Homework

Hello everyone,

I have started to receive some homework based on our Animal theme for this term. As I am away on the secondary ski trip until Monday 2nd, the deadline for this homework has been extended to that date. Please feel free to send any PowerPoints, videos, etc. to my school email: paul.hayes@shetland.gov.uk.

We will be looking at and reviewing the homework together as a class on Tuesday 3rd. If you need a reminder of what the homework is, please see the PDF below. Animals – Homework Task

Have a look at what Michael and Catriona have already completed for some inspiration!
