P6/7 sandwick junior high school

 

In music this term, we have been learning about note lengths and rhythms and we have been learning about Scottish music in relation to our class topic. We have also enjoyed creating our own music and graphic scores and have been developing our skills in playing the tuned percussion instruments, ukuleles, and boomwhackers.

Yesterday, we had an assembly celebrating pupils who achieved 100% attendance throughout Term 1.

A huge well done to everyone in P6/7 who achieved this amazing milestone! Your commitment and dedication are fantastic.

P67 had a fantastic time working with our ELC pupils during a fun-filled P.E. session! Our P67 pupils were fantastic role models, confidently leading different stations and helping the ELC pupils get involved and have lots of fun.

It was wonderful to see everyone working together, encouraging one another and enjoying being active. We are already looking forward to more sessions together in the future!

We have started our new topic on Famous Scots! We began by looking at how we get historical information and whether different sources are classed as primary or secondary sources.

We then went on to learn about William Wallace and Mary, Queen of Scots. We explored some fascinating events from their lives and discovered just how dramatic Scottish history can be! We also started to discuss whether evidence is reliable or is there any bias.

Some of us particularly enjoyed learning about the more gruesome details of the past – although perhaps not everyone felt quite the same way!

Good afternoon,

It has been lovely to have the pupils back in class, and I have loved hearing all about their summer holidays. We have settled back into our routines nicely and have approached our first full week with enthusiasm and focus.

Please ensure that all pupils have appropriate clothing and footwear for our P.E. and outdoor sessions. I would also recommend that pupils bring warmer clothes for break and lunchtime as the autumn season approaches.

Here are a few highlights from our P7 residential!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Shetland Christian Youth Camp for allowing us to use their excellent facilities.

Everyone had a fantastic time taking part in the activities and making memories with friends. Even the teachers got involved — and were delighted to win the game of hide-and-seek!

Today we had a session run by the Shetland Public Protection Committee (SPCC) on AI. We discussed the pros and cons of AI and how it impacts our lives.

Reka and Sandra from SPPC halve passed on some information that could be beneficial to parents/carers when it comes to digital life and how to work with restrictions on the different devices. Please see the links below.

2. Talking to your child about staying safe online – is full of ideas on what to look out for and chat about with children and their online life.
3. They also recommended ask the awkward resources as they have some brilliant conversation starters for older primary but also secondary children.

Pupils from P6 and P7 had a great day out representing the school at the primary hockey festival in Brae. The pupils played some brilliant hockey and were a credit to the school. Thank you so much to Luca from Fair Isle for joining our team. We love working in partnership with Fair Isle and it is a gift to be able to have them as part of the Sandwick Community.
