Busy Bees

Wow, we can’t believe we’re half way through this Term already! Here’s a snap shot of some of the fun we’ve had with learning so far this Term…….

…….Letters, sounds, Bookbug, baking and messy play…

…..sand pit and mark making…..Drewie and Callum wrote a Wishlist of Bruder toys and posted it.  Much to their excitement a reply came in the post with some goodies!

…..Outdoor play and hall time.  Bringing our learning outside.  Building galley’s, viking torches, puddle splashing and recycling…..

…..Celebrating Chinese New Year, and Robert Burns.  We made tartan, thistles and had our own Chinese Great Race!…..

….Roleplay, snack shopping and sharing Learning Journals kept us busy and of course, DA OORICKS!  Indie shared her learning from a new Nursery with us, all about the Ooricks.  We read the story and Indie told us how to make an Oorick.  Everyone loved it, made Ooricks then went to the forest to look for Ooricks.  We found lots of clues that they had been there; hats, beds, homes, look-outs, their own garden and much much more!

Christmas Party Fun Stay and Play

We had a fabulous Christmas Party on Wednesday shared with parents.  It was a magical morning spent with Santa who arrived in a Fire Engine because there was nowhere to land his sleigh!

Big thanks to the Sumburgh Local Authority Fire Brigade for rescuing Santa from a field and bring him to our party and big thanks to Santa for travelling so far to come and visit us.  The bairns thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Santa and finding out all about his reindeers and elves.

We loved playing all the party games……

….but the highlight was definitely our Gingerbread House building competition!  Great to have so many parents and family involved and who better to judge the winner for best Gingerbread House, than SANTA himself!

Just look at the amazing creations that were made by everyone…all the bairns did a fab job and good to see some healthy competitiveness from the parents!

Hoooray to Santa’s winners…Sophie, Bronagh, Isla, Callum and Willum!

Snack time to recharge our energy…

Thank you for coming everyone and making it a special day for all.

Exploring paint and colour

We have been learning about colours and exploring paint to mix colours as well as create some explosive Fireworks!

The Bairns used spray bottles on the walls to achieve different patterns in the sky and experiment with colours mixing and running.

Some bairns chose to mix their paint by squashing a balloon on their puddle of paint and watch the shapes and colours it would make.

Everyone enjoyed mixing different coloured icing to make firework biscuits for snack.  They used cocktail sticks to mix colours and design their fireworks patterns, whilst discussing the consistency of the icing that was most suitable to achieve their desired effect.

They enjoyed looking at and discussing the results of their creations with their friends.

Our Learning in Term 1

Hello everyone, apologies for our lack of posts for a while, there was a blip with our blog, but hopefully it’s all sorted now.

Here is a snapshot of our learning fun last term!……

…..Da bairns were really interested in exploring different materials,  their properties and uses.  They experimented to see if the material waterproof, strong, heavy, light, could float or sink.

……Then they explored their uses.  Could they build with it, could it stack, could it hold it’s shape…….

…..They took their learning outside to explore further where they experimented with forces and how things move…..

….Some bairns were very interested in magnetic forces, push and pull and others really enjoyed exploring mark making in the sand using different tools and materials.

….Magnus explored forces of push and pull using his body and feet – he even made his own ski’s!

We had lots of fun outside as always………

…building, climbing…

…..Jumping, sunbathing….

…..flying kites, experimenting with sound, pony jumps and building….

….Bikes and scooters pedalling with a passenger and negotiating corners with an extra wide bike!

…..Pony cuddles, walks to the shore,

…..and of course jumping in muddy puddles!

….And finally…..

…..baking, tea parties, painting with pineapples and pineapple play doh…..

….cosy stories, colour sorting and lemon tasing…..

…….music making, instrument skills, rhythm….

We were kindly donated an amazing castle!  The bairns carefully followed the instructions to build the castle themselves and some went on to make their own castles using all their knowledge of building and material properties they had already learned in their experiments….
