Big Question – Vibrations

This week, our Big Question is about vibrations and sound waves. We used a tuning fork to look at the vibrations in water, causing a bit of a splash. We then played a game where we used big vibrations and small vibrations for a “hiding game!” Then we looked at vibrations using rice… a lot of fun was had by all!

Play Projects – Things we care about

We have had a lovely start to the week, talking and drawing things we care about! Top of the list was family, closely followed by pets and friends and then of course… Santa (amongst a large list of other things!)

Big Question

This week we have been looking at things we believe in. It has opened up lovely discussions within the class… some a little deeper than others! 🙂 Everything from Santa to Loch Ness Monster… God to Big Foot and my favourite… “my family!”

STEM – Kapla/Engineering

We welcomed Eleanor Hutcheon back for our final STEM session and it was all about being engineers. Eleanor set six problems that the groups had to work together to solve. Lots of skills were seen throughout the session including communication, problem solving, creativity, maths skills, team work, leadership and many, many more. What a super morning.

Living Things Play Projects

Last week for our big question, we were looking at living things and how we would sort them using flow charts/diagrams and this week was our living things play project… and as always, the bairns did not disappoint. Here is a snapshot of some of the things we got up to!

UHI STEM – Senses

We had Eleanor back today to look at our senses. We did a lot of things including looking at optical illusions, using magnifying glasses, wearing upside down glasses, using tuning forks… and much, much more!

Botley Visit 2

Eleanor Hutcheon was back to do some STEM work with Botley and the primary 2s and she did not disappoint. The bairns were engaged throughout the whole session where they did some programming, team work and a lot of problem solving! Thank you to Eleanor (and Botley) for a super morning!

Big Question – What our school does for the environment

The bairns decided to interview a variety of staff within the school to ask them about the different things the school does for the environment. The bairns recorded the adult responses on to a recorder then the primary 2s used their note taking skills to listen for key words and then wrote them up for everyone to see. A lot of fun was had by all.

Solids, Liquids and Gases

For our play projects this week we were doing solids, liquids and gases. We had a variety of things from pictures to powerpoints. A lot of hard work – well done everyone.
