Learner Led Afternoon

Thanks to everyone who came along for our (busy) learner led afternoon today. It was so lovely seeing everyone. (Thanks to Maisie, P2, for taking the photos!)

Harvest Time and Autumn Colours

P1/2 have been thinking and discovering what Harvest is. They have been drawing and using collage to make wheat. They have thought about what we can make from wheat. Where our food comes from and how it gets used to make food. We also thought about people who do not have enough food because of war or poverty. We thought about sharing. We have made trees using the colours of autumn and have been discovering how to use different materials. They are going to think about what animals do in Autumn and work together to make more art.

P1/2 made wheat using drawing and collage to form the shapes. Then they each made a tree using autumn colours. They chose their own colours and using wax crayons- templates to make leaf shapes – collaged their work making beautiful individual works. But together they make a  wonderful and colourful forest.
They have drawn and made collages of hedgehogs and also created mini habitats for their hedgehogs to live in. P 1/2 have worked so  hard and are so enthusiastic and eager to learn. It has been a pleasure to teach them.

Sounds

For our “Big Question” this week – we are looking at sound and I was asked how it travels (great question!) So we looked at the idea of particles all around us and the vibrations causing bumps and it travelling in sound waves! We then did a game where they had to work out what direction the sound was coming from! Great fun was had by all!

Body Awareness

As part of our PE warm ups we have introduced some body awareness and control exercises.  The first week we worked on leg lifts, trying to feel for the right position.  On lowering our legs we really had to work hard so that the leg was lowered in control.  If done properly we would make no sound when the foot touched the floor.  This is really tricky to do and requires a lot of muscle control in our legs and core.  Mrs Ritchie also showed us pictures of ourselves.  We could then see the position we were in.  Using our senses in PE helps us judge how we are getting on and what we need to do to get better.

Games

In PE we have been doing Games.  We have focused on skills for ball games and actions that involve cooperation, getting us ready to work as part of a team.  We have also worked on movement skills with changes of direction and spatial awareness so that we can move quickly and effectively in a game.

STEM Maths – Outdoors

It was such a lovely day that we decided to do our maths outside. We were looking at measurement and had a challenge to beat Miss Hunter on finding five different things and use words like “bigger,” “longest,” “longer,” etc.
