We were using cards today to do some further work on number bonds to 10 and 20 and the bairns did super!
Play Projects – Wizards
Our play projects for this week has been wizards and the bairns did not disappoint!
Blubber Mittens
For our super senses, one of the bairns asked why walruses don’t get cold in the freezing water… so we did a little experiment to find out! We then shared this (along with other experiments) at our assembly.
Primary 1/2 Class Assembly
I was so incredibly proud of the bairns today (well more so than normal!) They put on their class assembly for the rest of the school and they did us all so very proud! They told the rest of the class about different super senses that animals have as well as doing some experiments… even Mr Clark got involved! A super morning! Well done! (Thanks to Mrs Johnson for taking the photos!)
Fundamentals of Movement
We had Isla Ramsay in today to look at some fundamentals of movement where we focused on moving, balancing and throwing and catching. The bairns (and staff) had a super session and look forward to next week.
Big Question
Remember how your dad has curly hair and your mum has blue eyes? Just like you inherited some of their traits, let’s pretend you’re a little wizard picking out special features from a potion to make a new friend. What traits would you choose to pass on, like hair colour, eye colour, or even a big smile?
Up Helly Aa trip to Lerwick
The bairns had a super morning in Lerwick on Tuesday to see the senior and junior jarl squads. The bairns were amazing as always and enjoyed seeing the vikings, galley and the bill. Special thanks to John, Moira, Amanda and Richard for joining us for the morning!
Big Question
Our big question this week was, “Can you think of a cosy house shaped like a little cottage, where a family of friendly bunnies might live? Now, what about a tall apartment building with lots of windows, where a group of busy bees could have their hive? Let’s use our imagination to create homes for all sorts of creatures!” and the bairns did not disappoint!
Busy Classroom
Here is a quick snapshot of some of the things going on in the classroom!
Big Question
Whilst we were looking at freezing and melting, we had discussions about liquids and solids which led to discussing when forces are involved (i.e. stirring paint to loosen it, concrete being a liquid but then becomes a solid, whipping cream, etc) so we did some experiments to see what happens…
There was a lot of mess!
