Orienteering

We have had great fun trying some simple orienteering tasks in PE.  Orienteering is an activity that requires you to follow a map to navigate your way around a course in the shortest possible time.  We have learnt how to follow a map, what a key is and how to use it, keep the map orientated to the group, what a control is and how we use them, work with others and many other useful things that help us to navigate around an orienteering course.

Racket Activities

We have spent the first six weeks of this term doing racket activities in PE.  We have been practicing table tennis, tennis and badminton.  We have done a lot of individual work, developing our ability to hit the equipment in control.  We have also worked on sending and receiving with a partner both with and without a racket.

Gymnastics

This was our last week of gymnastics.  The children have done brilliantly, making huge improvements in confidence and ability.

Today’s theme for pictures was they had to ask if they wanted a picture taken.  Here are the pictures and videos for those pupils to see them.

Gymnastics

Another exciting week in the gym with mostly the same equipment as last week.  We did have two changes with the ladder being slightly higher and a double bar at the A frame.  This week I saw a huge development in skill level and confidence.  Well done everybody.

Here we are in action.

Gymnastics

In PE we are doing gymnastics, focusing on Confidence and Self-Esteem.  Our confidence was definitely challenged today with all the different apparatus out.  Here are some pictures of us in action.

Body Awareness

As part of our PE warm ups we have introduced some body awareness and control exercises.  The first week we worked on leg lifts, trying to feel for the right position.  On lowering our legs we really had to work hard so that the leg was lowered in control.  If done properly we would make no sound when the foot touched the floor.  This is really tricky to do and requires a lot of muscle control in our legs and core.  Mrs Ritchie also showed us pictures of ourselves.  We could then see the position we were in.  Using our senses in PE helps us judge how we are getting on and what we need to do to get better.

Games

In PE we have been doing Games.  We have focused on skills for ball games and actions that involve cooperation, getting us ready to work as part of a team.  We have also worked on movement skills with changes of direction and spatial awareness so that we can move quickly and effectively in a game.
