Mrs Bannister STEM Challenge

On Tuesday mornings we do some writing and have a chance to go into the hall with Mrs Bannister for some play and STEM challenges. This week looked a whole lot of fun!

Pokemon Club

The lovely Mrs Bannister is running a Pokemon Club for Primary 1 – 3 and it looked like great fun!! A massive thank you to Mrs Bannister for giving up your time to do this!

Miss Baronet’s Big Question

Miss Baronet did a super lesson for our Big Question this week looking at food chains, focusing on photosynthesis, producers and consumers. The bairns got an input along with a video clip before breaking into groups to do food chains using playdough and chalk as well as some planting. A great lesson, enjoyed by all!

Plants Play Project

As well as our visit to Elizabeth’s amazing garden, the bairns have been busy doing a variety of things for their play project! Well done everyone!

Visit to Elizabeth’s wonderful garden

Jessie and her mam organised a trip to her Granny’s garden to tie in with our play projects. We had a WONDERFUL morning. Elizabeth and Amanda took them on a tour of the hidden gem of a garden, we got to see the hens, do some planting in the polycrub (and take them home) and then a lovely surprise of an ice lolly! We had the best morning! Thank you so much for having us… we had a lovely day!

Outside Classroom

When the sun is shining… what better way to enjoy it than move the classroom outside!? We love an outdoor classroom! Lots of fun was had by all!

Polycrub visit

Every week we have a few of the bairns heading to the polycrub and they (and staff) are enjoying it.

Music – Sun, Sea and Songs!

P.1-2 have been singing some songs about the sea and we have been following the  Sun, Sea and Song BBC Schools Radio programme where each week we learn a new song about the sea.

Here is a link to the songs: Primary Music KS1: Sun, sea and song! – BBC Teach –

As well as learning a song, each week we have also done some related musical activities and listened to a piece of music, and the P.1-2 children are getting so good at identifying orchestral instruments just by listening to the music and recognising the sounds of the various instruments!

Here are P.1 and 2 singing and clapping a rhythms for ‘A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea’;

Class trip to farm

We had a lovely morning visiting Isla’s family farm where we saw lambs, calves, tractors (getting to sit in one) and got a chance to see how wool comes from sheep and ends up knitted. We had a fantastic morning! Thanks to Isla and Isla’s mam for organising it and to Sheila, Douglas and Jamie for having us.

Orienteering

We have had great fun trying some simple orienteering tasks in PE.  Orienteering is an activity that requires you to follow a map to navigate your way around a course in the shortest possible time.  We have learnt how to follow a map, what a key is and how to use it, keep the map orientated to the group, what a control is and how we use them, work with others and many other useful things that help us to navigate around an orienteering course.
