Bath Fizzies

During science week we had to do a new challenge every day and on Thursday the 13th of March we made and designed bath fizzies (bath bombs).
We came into the class at the start of the day and we had to put on gloves, aprons and goggles that Michael, Hermione’s dad, gave us.
Then we started making them. It was really fun. It was challenging too because if you put in too much liquid in with the chemicals it would start to fizz and it would react to the different chemicals and the bath bomb wouldn’t work as well. The ingredients were sodium hydrogen carbonate, citric acid, corn flour, water, food colouring, and fragrance oils. There were three groups, we all had to make up names and Logo’s so in the end Stephanie, Lewis and Loui-bo’s group was called Da Peerie Shetland Bath Bombs. Erin, Nicol and my group was called love and Emma, Hermione and Jason’s group was called the Homemade Beautiful Panda Perfumes.

After that we packaged them we all did something different, the Love group did red packaging and made it into a bag then tied it with ribbon and threaded through our labels, The homemade beautiful bath bombs did dark blue rapping and stuck there labels on top of the packaging, and Da Peerie Shetland bath bombs did clear rapping and stuck there label on top, like the beautiful panda perfumes.

After we had finished putting the bath bombs in the moulds we had to wait for 24 hours before we could package our bath bombs, and after we had rapped and decorated our bath bombs we made boxes for the bath bombs to go in. To start Mr Hewitt drew a net on the board and we had to copy what he had drawn. Next we cut out the net and stick them together. After that we decorated our boxes and put the bath bombs in the boxes. We took them home and our parents had to test and mark them out of ten in different areas our parents had to mark the , fizziness , presentation and scent. Overall it was very fun and I enjoyed it very much so did the rest of the class. The votes will be added up and the winning team will get an Easter egg each.

Should Space Exploration Be Funded Debate

On Wednesday 12th March primary seven had a debate on whether or not space exploration should be funded. We were on the side that thought that space exploration shouldn’t be funded and Harry Rose was on the opposing side.

Leading up to the debate we had to research both sides of the debate so we knew the topic inside and out. When we had researched both sides of the debate and written a balanced report we had to decide on which side of the debate we wanted to be. Since Nicola wanted to stop funding space exploration and I wanted to continue funding space exploration we had to do rock paper scissors and we ended up doing that space exploration shouldn’t be funded.

Then on Wednesday it was finally time to debate but before the debate happened everyone voted on what they already believed to see if after the debate anybody’s minds had been changed. Some of our arguments were that their are countries that are spending money on space exploration when they have people that need fresh food and clean water. We also argued that a lot of the benefits of space are indirect like the antigravity pen that millions of pounds were spent on and why couldn’t they have just used a pencil.
Mr Rose had some amazing arguments including how a lot of technology comes from NASA like the computer chip, and that we wouldn’t have TV if it wasn’t for space exploration because there would be no satellites. Once we had both made our points we were allowed to ask questions to each other then the audience were allowed to ask questions.

Once all the questions had been asked it was time for the final vote. The first vote showed that everyone wanted to stop funding space exploration but on the final vote it showed that everyone except for one person had changed their minds so that meant that Mr Rose won.

Was the Moon Landing a Hoax?

On Wednesday 12th March we had two debates. My debate was on whether the moon landing was faked or not, I was on the side saying it was a hoax.
When we came in the five of us sat at different sides. Me, Lewis and Nicol sat on one side and Loui-Bo and Jason sat on the other side. First of all my group said our arguments. Our arguments included the way the American flag wave on the moon, the lack of an impact crater and that there were no stars on the pictures. The waving flag was the American flag, and how it waved when there is no atmosphere on the moon. The impact crater was when Apollo 11 landed, there was no crater or shapes showing where it had landed. The last thing was when you look at the footage and pictures there are no stars although there are billions of stars in the sky. Then Loui-Bo and Jason said their arguments, which were against our points, every time they said something we had too quickly think up an argument to counter it for when we could talk again.

After we had said our arguments, the audience , which included our class, Mrs Perry and some of our parents got a chance to ask the groups questions and my group got flooded with them. We kept answering against questions and then the parents would ask us more questions against what we had said. It got really complicated. Loui-Bo and Jason occasionally asked a question but they never got asked one, since everyone agreed with them anyway.
After the debate people voted, they all said the moon landing was not a hoax. Loui-Bo and Jason both got a small chocolate thing for an award. Even after the debate was finished more people started talking to us again, and we what that lasted about ten minutes until eventually it came lunch and we had to go. Was like a second debate. It was really fun doing the debates and I want to do another one at some point.
