The Music Festival Gala Concert 2014

We were at the Shetland Schools’ Music Festival Gala Concert on Thursday the 20th of March. We  were performing because we were the only group in our section who got a gold plus. We caught the 5:30 ferry on the way to the concert. We went on Sonia’s bus. Everyone was so excited. We had to wear our school jumpers and black shoes and breeks again. The adjudicator left us some really nice notes from the Tuesday and then decided to invite us to perform in the Gala concert. On the bus we got bread sticks and digestives. We then got to Mareel and we were getting all of our instruments out of the bus and put them in a big room where they kept all of the instruments. We went to the balcony to watch the  performance until our turn, then we went to get our instruments all ready then we went up to the bit where you wait for the people before you are done, then we went up on the stage. We played Minnie ‘o Shirvas Cradle Sang. We did exactly the the same as on Tuesday. Charlotte went up on the stage first, then it was Bradley and me, Then the keyboard people in at the back, then the xylophone people then the percussionists last. We all played  on our instruments twice then we all sang the first 2 verses with Charlotte playing the piano, then it was Phoebe and Leah on the xylophone, Kerry and Melissa on the keyboards and me on the fiddle for one round and then everyone played one verse. Then Everyone sang and nobody played for verse 3. Then it was Honor on the keyboard playing the bass guitar part, Bradley playing the bass guitar, Emer, Neil, Rosie and Sonia were playing percussion instruments and me on the fiddle playing it once through and then everyone joined in. Then everyone sang the last 2 verses and Charlotte and I played along to them singing. To finish off with then we all played 2 verses. It was fun! We then went back up to the balcony to watch the rest of the concert.

We sung and played, but before that we went for a walk because we where going to go on the 9-15 ferry but then we had to go on the  8-45 ferry in stead so we had time to have a walk and a snack and have a look at the others peoples groups singing and playing our musical instruments and we sung and played Minnie O’ Shirva’s Cradle Sang, because the festival was in the pictures we got to see them on a big screen so it looked like the other groups where in a film. We where the forth in our group first we played the first two verses on our instruments, then we sang the first two verses, then the xylophones two of the keyboard players and the fiddle player played at the same time, then we all played together, then we sung the third verse then the base played, the other keyboard player played, percussion played and the fiddle played, and we got gold+. Gala Concert At Mareel

From home  we went to the port. I went out of my car with mum to the bus. I put on my jumper and seat belt and rode to the ferry. We went up stairs to meet our parents there.  We went down stairs and to Lerwick. We had bread sticks.  At  Mareel we went upstairs to the green room for a bit of practice to be perfect. I was exited to go on the stage I couldn’t stop being exited on the stage but it was a bit better then waiting to go on the stage. It was  better than last time. We won a trophie. There were lots and lots of schools again.  We went to the bus and got dijestefs it was really good. I loved it.  This time we played  in the bus the game was about silly names and then mum  took me home.

There are only one gold plus in each group. We saw the comments and they were all very positive. We could’t believe that we won the gold plus. We had Hamnavoe Primary School sit in front of us on the balcony. We then had our lunch and it was good. I had a tuna sandwich with grapes and a sausage roll. I really enjoyed the day.

He had long hair and had a t-shirt that said staff on it. Then he came up and got us he took us down stairs into a room with a cement floor which was back stage. Then they took us on stage. I felt quite scared.

We played Minnie ‘O’ Shiva Cradle song. The amount of time you got was six minuets. After three minuets we were done and happy. We went of the stage wile people were clapping. We walked to out side the Mareel balcony which took you to the very back seats. When the festival before lunch was finished so we went into the cafe and had our pack lunch.

Kerry and Charlotte Music Festival

We have been practicing for the Music Festival; The song we have been practicing is called Minnie o’ Shirva’s Cradle Song, it is a traditional Shetland dialect song. We have been practicing for weeks with our music teacher every Friday. The Music Festival was held in the Mareel on the 18th of March; there were primary schools from all over Shetland coming to participate.

On Tuesday, we had to get up really early because we had to get to school by 8.15 to load up our instruments. We went on the ferry at 8.45, we had to go so early because the ferry terminal double booked themselves so we were put on a earlier ferry. On the ferry we saw Cullivoe Primary; Cullivoe is in the north of Yell.

When we got off the ferry, we did warm ups to help with our voices, we also had thumb wars. By the time we got to Lerwick it was 10.00, we parked up by the Anderson High School, we had some fruit, water and bread sticks. After that we went for a walk around the Knab which is a walking path which goes straight through a golf course. We walked for half an hour, it was really fun!

Next we went to the Mareel; the Mareel is a cinema/cafe/music stadium. We carried our instruments into the entrance were we told to go up stairs into the Café Bar. We saw Cullivoe Primary there; they were about to go on stage so we carefully laid our instruments and went into Screen 1 where we watched Cullivoe and Mid Yell preform. We were in the next category, after a couple more schools we were showed down stairs into the green room were we could tune the bass guitar and the fiddle.

After the next school band came off we were shown towards the waiting room where our music teacher made sure everything was okay and tuned. Everyone was nervous, as we made it on stage the nerves went away. We waited until everyone was ready and launched into our song, all our adrenaline was high, as we finished our song. We were all grinning from ear to ear as we walked of the stage.

Then we got to go to the top of the auditorium and watched the rest of the groups preforming; we waited for the judge to say who got a gold  and who got silver . We knew there was an adjudicator and he was presenting a gold plus which is better than a gold and there was one for the choir group and one for the instrumental section  and guess what we won it for the instrumental section. We were all over the moon and were chatting about it for the whole trip  back home on the bus and planned on the ferry if some of us would trick are family and say we got a bronze and then say just kidding we got a gold plus the best mark!
