Gib and Marianne invited us to visit The Settler whilst she was at Scottish Sea Farms in Scalloway. We were able to watch Daniel controlling the unloading of the salmon which they had brought from Orkney into the processing plant. Gib gave everyone a tour of the boat; the older ones went down into the engine room with Neil, the engineer. Thank you very much to Gib and Marianne and the crew!

First we went inside Mareel and then there was a T- shirt performance some bits were funny but I liked it we sat on benches. There were mostly gymnastics with the T-shirts. After we went to the Met Office and Jenny showed us around and we wrote our names on the weather balloon. Then we watched the weather balloon go up. Then we rode the bus to Scalloway and there in a playground we ate our lunch it was fun in the playground, but we soon had to go to the Scalloway museum. In the museum there were lots of interesting things like different boats and mostly history. And breathing mask from the war period and old money. After we went to the Scalloway castle there were steep stairs. Then for tea we went to Cornerstone I liked the food there. Then we went home.

We were all puppies but our p7 was Cruela Davil. Probably our float was the loudest when we stared to bark and yell. we threw sweets which were spotty marshmallows we did’nt eat them but the sweets looked tasty. We finished the ride at the old pier. There was a barbecue me and my brother had sasauge rolls and on another stall there were ice creams we had them as well. Our float won second prize it was 50 pounds. After we went on the beach. I enjoyed being on the 101 Dalmations float.

On Thursday we went to Mid Yell to do Fever. We were the Medics with the Cullivoe School. We arrived at 10 o’clock with the service bus. We were rehearsing to get the words right and do all the actions with the leader. We had a break at 11:00. We went outside to have a fresh air. We were in the upper primary classroom to work on our own groups. We meet in the hall to rehearse. We do the real performance in the afternoon. We started at 2:15 pm.
The Scottish Opera visit to Shetland schools is supported by the Youth Music Initiative.

This term we have been growing rocket seed but not just any rocket seeds one packet has been in space! We planted 100 seeds from each packet. The first 2 seeds germinated in 3 days and the rest took 4. We had to calculate the percentage of seeds that have germinated by day 10. Next we had record how many days it took the first seedling in each replicate to grow it’s first pair of true leaves. Then we calculated the percentage of seedling alive on day 17. On day 21 we had to measure the seedlings in mm. On day 28 we had to calculate the mean that were alive. Finally on day 35 we had to calculate the percentage of seeds alive.

I had lots of fun making it when I was on the school float then I didn’t really help but this time I really did help. We got an old ambulance siren for the float to sound like the police we also had music.

We took part in Fever this years Scottish opera performance on the 9th of June in the Mid Yell school. All the North Isles schools were there. We have been practising for a few weeks. The real performance went really well because everyone knew the words, on the day we learned the positions and the actions but we were really good on them at the end. Our school P4-P7 worked with Cullivoe P5-P7 and we were the Medics, Baltasound P4-P7 worked together with Fetlars older pupils and they were the Press and Mid Yells P5 – P7 were the Bacterias and the Immune System. Overall it was really fun and I would definitely do it again!

This weekend was the Carnival weekend in burravoe. The week before we were really busy getting the float together. Saturday was actually the day of the carnival. At half six we all gathered round at the hall and waited for our float. lots of us were nice and warm because we were dressed up as dalmatians and Kerry was dressed up as Cruella de vile can you guess what our float theme was? well if you can’t guess it we were 101 dalmatians. The float was decorated as a house and there was also a couch in the float and slid all the time on the float. when we got down to the barrel store they announced the winners our float came 2nd. After that lots of people had things from the bbq and they got ice cream and after that we the enjoyed the rest of the night.

We went to the Met Office to see the weather balloon. We went for a tour around the Station because it was early. I liked writing on the balloon. Owen showed us the insturment that measures the weather. We wrote our name on the balloon to tell we launched the balloon. We had a feel of the gases. They were expensive gas. We checked the wind at left and right.

Yesterday we went to the met office. The met office is a place to see what weather is going to be on the days of the week. At the met office we did experiments and we did look at the instruments outside. We also looked at the weather balloon going up. We put our names on the weather balloon and then Owen blew the the weather balloon up with helium. Then the weather balloon flew away collecting information. Then we went to Fraser Park which is in the Scalloway for lunch there was a play park. Then we went to Scalloway museum. Then we went to Scalloway castle. Then we went to to Scalloway cafe for our tea. Then we went back to the play park again. Then we went on the ferry and then we went home.

Yesterday we went on a school trip. First we went to Mareel to see a performance it was really weird but it was really cool. After that we went to the Met Office to see the weather balloon go up, it was really cool but one of the coolest bits at the Met Office was signing the weather balloon. As well as seeing the weather balloon we got to see lots of other things at the Met Office. We also got to do experiments. After that we went for our lunch at the fraser park it was really fun. After we had eaten our lunch we went to the Scalloway museum my favorite part was the play area. When we left the museum we really wanted to go to the castle so we went inside, we went in the kitchen, prison, storage room and the bedrooms. we also went to the Shetland bus memorial. But then we started to get really hungry so we went to the Corner Stone for tea. We finished our tea early so before we went home we got to got to the play park again.
