  • PE Update – Hockey

This term, we are focusing on invasion games, with hockey and basketball forming the main areas of learning. We began with a week of skills development to build the core attributes required for success in both sports. These included cooperation, dodging, weaving, attacking, defending, communication, and decision-making.

We then moved on to hockey. Throughout this block, pupils have been building their confidence in controlling the ball, passing accurately, and dribbling effectively. They have had regular opportunities to practise and refine these skills before applying them in fun, competitive games. As the unit progresses, pupils will continue to develop their teamwork, spatial awareness, and tactical understanding of the game.

Basketball Skills and Teamwork to Finish the Term

Over the last three weeks, our pupils have been enjoying a block of basketball lessons as we round off the term.

During these sessions, the children have been developing their core basketball skills, focusing on passing, dribbling and shooting. Through a variety of fun activities and games, they have had opportunities to practise these techniques before applying them in more competitive situations. This has allowed them to improve their confidence, decision-making and teamwork while enjoying the excitement of game play.

Alongside the physical skills, we have also continued to focus on the Significant Aspect of Learning Respect and Tolerance. Pupils have been encouraged to show respect for teammates, opponents and officials, while demonstrating tolerance by supporting one another, accepting different abilities and working positively together. These benchmarks have been an important part of every lesson and have helped create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

It has been fantastic to see the progress the children have made, both in their basketball abilities and in the way they work and interact with others. Well done to everyone for their effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the block. πŸ€πŸ‘

    Space – Solar Systems

We worked in groups to use fruit to represent the planets in the Solar System.

We enjoyed tasting the different fruits, and a few really liked the grapefruit.

21st September  – Stem Visit from Eleanor

Eleanor talked to us about Satellites and the many different careers in the Space Industry.  Then we worked with a partner or in a small group. We used an app on the Ipads to programme the robots to orbit the Earth and collect Space Junk. We all did an amazing job!

    Health and Wellbeing

On Friday afternoons, just before Fun Friday, we split into our primaries, rather than staying with our composite class.  P6 are taught by Miss Birnie, and P5 learn with me. It’s lovely to spend time together and helps us maintain friendships with a wider range of peers.

    Maths Week Scotland

During Maths Week Scotland (19th – 27th September 2026) we joined in with some of the online activities.  We learned about different number systems including Egyptians and Roman numerals.

We wrote our own Maths Tales about the Maths Week Scotland Mascot – Finn Finity going on a journey.  We entered the competition and look forward to hearing back in November!

Trip to the Park – 8th October 2026

As a celebration for meeting our Daily Writing Target we went to the King Harald Street Park for a play. It was a lovely weather and everyone had a great time!

    Space Inventions Homework

P5/6 have been working hard to create amazing Space Homework.  They have shared their creations with their class.
