- exploring sound using instruments and everyday objects
- listening to a variety of pieces of music

Taking part in music making activities contributes to a child’s overall development. It supports the development of:
Health and Wellbeing
- I can cope with new situations
- I can share and cooperate with others
- I can engage in physical activity
Communication and Language
- I can listen and recognise words that rhyme
- I can identify and tap out syllables in words
- I can recognise and name some letters
- I can listen. understand and respond
- I can retell a story / song that I have heard
- I can talk about what I am learning
Mathematics and Numeracy
- I can talk about more or less to compare quantities – e.g. of musical instruments playing
- I can count items accurately and consistently – e.g. in songs and rhymes
- Number track – e.g. in songs and rhymes
- I can recognise and copy a simple pattern
- I can use positional language – e.g. in front, behind, under, beside
EARLY LEVEL
Music-making activities for children from preschool and Primary 1 will include
Presenting and Performing:
songs and rhymes
moving to the music – march, clap, tap
Exploring and Creating:
exploring sound – playing a range of instruments
creating sound – loud/quite; fast/slow
Evaluating and Appreciating:
listening to pieces of music from different styles and played by different instruments or groups of instruments
