At Muirhead Primary we have achieved Gold accreditation award for being a Dyslexia Friendly School.  This means that all staff are trained to recognise dyslexia type problems and how to help the children to achieve their best.  Dyslexia means having difficulty with reading and spelling and at Muirhead we have lots of strategies to help the children overcome their problems.  In our infant department the children learn basic phonics and reading using multi-sensory methods, this for some children will continue further up the school, facilities are available for this through helping boxes which are provided in each class.  The helping boxes contain – magnetic Letters, highlighters, Word Mats, Ear Defenders, Chalk , Post it notes and Coloured overlays amongst other things.

Staff have training sessions and good teaching techniques are shared amongst staff.  We have 2 pupil support teachers who advise staff and work with specific children.  If you have any concerns please speak to the class teacher initially.  For more information on dyslexia please click on the links below:
