Minishant is a village in South Ayrshire situated on the A77 road from Ayr to Stranraer. It is a rural school serving Minishant and its surrounding district. Children come to school by car, taxi or walk. At present (Autumn 2022) the school roll is 28, with 40% placing requests in to the school and 11% of children receiving free school meal entitlement (excluding P1-P5 pupils).
There are two classes: P1-P4 and P5-P7.
P1-P4 is taught by Mrs Leavy from Mondays to Thursdays, and Mrs Russell on Fridays.
P5-7 is taught by Mr Lowrie every day except Wednesday, when Mrs Russell teaches the class.
We have a 0.5 principal teacher (Mrs Beattie) and a 0.5 Head Teacher (Mrs Devlin) who are shared with Crosshill Primary School. Additionally, the school has two School Assistants, one Janitor/Cleaner/Catering Assistant and one Clerical Assistant.
The school has excellent links with local primaries and the secondary school.
The Minishant Primary School Parent Council is currently being re-formed and we will keep you up to date about the appointment of office bearers and any forthcoming events. Our Parent Council have always been extremely supportive of the school and each year raise hundreds of pounds which go towards for example, school trips and the purchase of the P7 Leavers’ Hoodies. Last term just before the summer holidays, funds raised from a Christmas raffle bought all the pupils a McDonalds Meal and a personalised mug/cup.
